| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 26, 2007 Hazy orange; nice color. Texture was much lighter than I expected, especially for 9.5 percent. I almost found it watery. Carbonation seemed too light as well. Big elements of fruit right off the bat. Mostly grapefruit, but there were some lesser notes of lemon and orange. Pine, grass and flowers follow. Malts were kind of subdued but they weren’t bad (dry bread and hard candy). Overall, I enjoyed drinking this one but I was a little disappointed by its lack of depth. unclemattie (2417), Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 22, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours an attractive golden orange, medium white head. Big aromas of fresh Red Grapefruit. Nice smooth caramel malt. Spicy, pine and citrus flavors dominate. Not overly powerful, but not very balanced either. Mostly, this beer just settles as a higher alcohol IPA that is mostly dry hopped. Not much of a chewy finish. Mediocre IIPA... DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 10/20 | Nov 14, 2007 The brewmaster of this IPA must have said "hit me" one too many times (the blackjack refernece was so obvious I had to use it). An unbalanced Double IPA, unfortunely I find this is the trap that most brewers fall into when crafting double IPAs. Too much grapefruit taste for the hops and hardly any malt balance. A no-limit style IPA...not for my palate. glennmastrange (857), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 8, 2007 Bottle. Aroma starts with moderate malt smells of rye bread and roasted, hops smell of orange and herbs, and dough for the yeast, with cherry, white wine and cooked root vegetables in the background. Head is bubbly, off-white, is mostly lasting and has excellent lacing. Color is a murky amber/orange. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, very oily and a bit creamy and it has a lively carbonation. It finishes mildy alcoholic and lightly dry without any astringency. Not the huge dose of hops I would expect, and an odd bready/vegetal note in the taste, but overall it had excellent balalnce in flavor and the palate is perfect for a DIPA. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2007 Light copper body with a small white head. Mix of grapefruit and pine hops in the aroma with some mowed lawn and a touch of caramel. Surprisingly light bodied for a double. The caramel sweetness is all but blotted out by the heavy hops bitterness. Something I’d drink again. This was part of a night of IPA and 2IPA drinking. (And 3IPA with Devil Dancer.)

pours a slightly haze golden cooper hue with a very little white head, a small line around the glass. aroma of earthy and citrus bitter hops with a strong malt background. hops are not overpowering and it gives it a balanced aroma. flavour is sweet malt that fades into some spicey a dn earthy hops. finishes very nice with some hop bitterness, but not to much. maybe the mellowest IIPA i have had. hapjydeuce (771), Del Mar, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 8, 2007 Bottled. Unorthodox appearance for the style, much lighter in golden color with disappointing carbonation level and no sign of a head, or any formation for that matter. Aroma heavily lacks any consistency, attitude and intrigue. Spicy and bitter flavor with citrus notes that are enjoyable, however this beer is completely raw and unbalanced on the palate. Ends much too harsh, alcohol is ever-present and the malts don’t do much to curve out the intense ending to each sip. Didn’t expect much from Speakeasy though. Eh.
