Location: 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods - Bowery, 10/31/09

Aroma: The nose begins with a sweet grapefruit aroma, and then transitions through to some caramel, toffee, and a bit of alcohol.
Appearance: The pour is a slightly hazy orange color with a nice white, foamy head that has excellent retention.
Flavor: The taste doesn’t quite match up to the nose, there’s the citrus hop, but it doesn’t have that really nice hop flavor, and the alcohol burn is quite prevalent.
Palate: The mouthfeel is alright, but it does lean toward the thin side, light-medium body, and you can feel the ABV a bit too much on the way down.
Overall Impression: Overall this beer is a pretty decent brew, but it doesn’t quite reach the points that a great DIPA does, but it does make for a solid/drinkable brew. It reminds me a bit of the Big Daddy, but the ABV seems to take away from this one just a little bit.

Cask dry-hopped at Mike (Eyedrinkale’s) place: Thanks! Hazy golden pour with an off white head. Rich citrusy aroma- some mild grapefruit suggestions and sweeter notes of cookieish malts in the back. Slick body with a sweet cookie-like malt background substantiating a body. Lots of vegetal and resiny west coast hops balance it. Clean and balanced- a well conditioned cask.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine in Tustin ($2.49). Pours a dark amber orange-brown with thin layer of white foam. Lots of floaties which appears to be remnants of hops. Hoppy aroma of tropical fruits (mango, pineapple) along with some grapefruit and alcohol. Flavor of resiny fruity hops with some malt. Not well balanced. Unfortunately, the finish is dominated by alcohol. Disappointing.

An orange/bronze translucent beer with a large creamy head. Aroma is vague resiny hops, some alcohol. Flavor is a nicely balanced caramel maltiness with a lot of hop bitterness. Only thing keeping it from top marks in taste is the alcohol is quite evident, especially the finish which is almost like the aftertaste of a shot of vodka, but more bitter.

Clear light amber pour with decent off white head with some sticky lacing. Nose is a sweet resiny pine hop. Flavor is not quite so enjoyable. LOTS of rubbing alcohol, with very resiny overly bitter hops. Cloying on the palate. I just can’t get over how much this tastes like straight booze. Dissapointment from these guys. Love the bottle though.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear golden copper color with a medium creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Malty aroma with notes of caramel, light toffee and a good amount of floral, citrus and pine hop notes. Taste is bitter leafy citrus hops with a caramel finish, a bit underwhelming compared to the aroma. Thin-medium bodied.

Amber pour with a creamy white head and lace. Alot of malt, grapefruit, and hints of abv. Semi sweet malt, nice warmth, and very good bitter. Full solid palate with good carbonation. A good beer just not enough malt to carry the abv.
