Pours a clear filtered medium amber with a thin white head ans spotty lacing. Aroma is hoppy- american - C hop, amarillow and a bit catty, earhty, and citrusy with a prickly pine character and sweet sticky caramel malts- but overall the aroma seems refined and filtered and a bit dusty/dirty. Smooth moderate flavor with lots of sweet malts, hoppy citrus and lemon, with ornage rind bitterness, filtered slick taste, but overall it is very smooth and enjoyable. Pretty good overall. I liked this better than expected. Thanks Jeff! tronraner (1933), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 12, 2007 Bottle at the Knoxville Spring(ish) tasting. Pours dark, brilliant copper with thin ivory head. The aroma is earthy hops, sweet bread, and some toast. The flavor has quite a bit of citrus and some toast, hints of alcohol, and various tropical fruits. I would much prefer that this have a greater depth to the malts. Still ok, though. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 11, 2007 The final beer of the evening for the Knoxville Spring(ish) tasting. Reddish copper, with an aroma of caramel and pine. Flavor is also caramel and pine, but leas toward the sweet end of the spectrum. Seems more of an English interpretation of the style. Crisp, fairly hoppy finish. TheCheeseMan (539), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2007 Bottled. Interesting change of pace for an American Barley to more closely resemble the British original. Very sweet and viscous, not the typical hop bomb. Not the best ever, but a good drink. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 24, 2007 Light brown with a small head and minimal lacing. Thickly hopped aroma, somewhat aggressive hop flavoring on the frontside. Not tremendously complex for a barleywine, really smooth though for 10%. Naven (876), Poway, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2007 This beer pours an amazingly nice looking amber color. Seriously, one of the nicest looking ales I have seen. Aroma is hoppy, with some trippy caramel and brown sugar undertones. Flavor is niiiice up front, but I got a gnarly medicinal taste at the end. A little harsh. This one should grow on me, just like Double Daddy has.
