tiggmtl (4148), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 27, 2008 Fresh citrusy hops over a round malt sweetness with a touch of alcohol in the nose. Brilliantly clear amber brown body is topped by a decent tan head that recedes to a partial cover with slight lace. Plenty of fruity esters over sweet malts and citrusy hop flavour. Bitterness creeps in and is quite pronounced and lingering. Alcohol is very present in the flavour and is quite warming as well. Medium body with very creamy texture and pleasant, lightly pointy carbonation. Snifter. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Mar-08).
stefanje (466), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 12 oz bottle from Bevmo. Pours a translucent amber-brown color with a beige head that left ample lacing. The aroma is big with malted barley, caramel, toffee, and biter walnuts. The flavor showed biter hops, raisins, dates and sweet barley malt. The mouthfeel is smooth and malty. The finish is long with lingering barley. Overall--a barley wine for barley wine fans. All others beware. Snojerk321 (859), San Diego, California, USA Jun 30, 2008 12oz bottle from BevMo! Mission Valley. Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, lightly-lacing, off-white head. Aroma of complex sweet caramel and some fresh citrusy hops. Body starts sweet and caramely malty with a touch of grapefruity bitterness and toasted toffee. Finishes slightly warming and astringent. Has a decent balance of sweet malt and fresh hops. boFNjackson (457), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 25, 2008 Bottle... Poured dark orange with an off-white head. Aroma of alcohol and sugar sweetness. Solid barley wine. Very sweet and fruity plum and fig flavors with dark, barley-malt. Goes down easy for over 10%. aubreya (636), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 24, 2008 The color was crisp amber. The head was thin, fizzy, and white. The aroma was alcohol, funky, and somewhat hoppy. The flavor was alcohol, medicinal, and waxy/bitter. The palate was lively. The finish was warm. emacgee (936), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 24, 2008 Pours a fairly clear bright copper orange. One finger creamy yellowish head. The nose is very green, alcohol, had to describe, awful. Reminds me of Green Flash Barley Wine which was a total drain pour for me. Makes it very hard for me to actually take a sip of this. I can’t drink this, very green astringent flavor. Warm alcohol. Drain Pour.
