This was a rather forgettable amber ale and an unfortunate first foray into Speakeasy for me. Mouthfeel was very thin and the complexity was weak, even for an amber. I disagree with some of the reviews here, but maybe my palate isn’t aging well? I suppose it’s very "drinkable" as most ambers are. But then again, it has the bitters of an IPA... There’s a reason the styles are distinct, in my opinion. Melding them makes a weak IPA, or a weird amber. Neither is really palatable. Turned me off of Speakeasy, but I’ll try another of their brews before I jump to conclusions.

Amber ale, meet IPA. That’s all I can think of with this one, a somewhat malty, caramel flavor buttressed at the front and back by citrusey hoppiness. At first I thought, "Uh oh, here comes another IPA." But I was only partially correct, as the amber ale characteristics improved this beer, putting it in a class by itself.

Aroma – Malt and hops well balanced aroma.
Appearance – Amber in color, light head and clear.
Flavor – Nice malt flavor with hops backing the flavor. This was pretty good.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Nice texture with a dry finish.
Overall – Very nice Amber ale the hops added to the flavor and gave this beer some great ending flavors.

On tap at Ravenous. Slightly hazy amber color with no head. Nose of floral hops and caramel. Great hops in this beer. When down easy.

Bottle. Very hoppy aroma. Pretty hoppy in the flavor, as well. However, it wasn’t terribly bitter. It was OK.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, resin, citrus, grapefruit, and caramel. Poured amber in color with a medium-sized, creamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Some small particles. Excellent lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Taste of caramel malts and resinous, citrusy hops. Light to medium body. Thin, watery texture become sticky. Average carbonation. Resinous, hoppy, dry finish.

Pours dark amber with a big off-white head, lots of creamy lacing. Aroma is floral hops, some pine. Taste is close to your average APA. Plenty of bitter citrus hops nice sweet malts. One of the very best Ambers to date. Well recommended. Well I’ve worked my way through the only Speakeasy products available locally and I am impressed. The "Prohibition" may be my favorite one.

On tap at the Giants game 4/9. DTM’s already elaborated about the drunk moron who thought this was a porter. I thought it was an IPA, but apparently it’s an Amber. So, who’s the idiot... Anyway, it was excellent for an Amber, as it was full in flavor and elegantly bitter.
