Bottle. Nice sweet flavor, and great aroma. Taste lingered for quite some time. Malty, fruity flavors.

Big rocky head on top of this deep amber coloured ale. Interesting aroma of toast in addition to caramel maltiness and earthy, somewhat spicy hops. Some citrus appears among the earthy, toasted caramel flavours, never at any point sweet, finish is quite dry. Medium-bodied. An extraordinary amber ale.

From a 12 oz. long neck attractive silk screened brown bottle with a blurb about the APA on the back of bottle and no freshness date. Made a good appearance, poured a clear red hued amber with a foamy pale tan head that reduced to a sticky, thin bubbly lacing. Had a nice tasty, toasted caramel malt aroma, a little bubblegum as well, piney hop notes along with citric, fruity scents. Moderate carbonation and a smooth, textured medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. A good balance between hop and malt flavors, a fruity start, then piney and citric, a good rolling hop bitterness on the tongue, an underlining caramel and toasted biscuity maltiness with a caramel malty finish with a lingering sour citric hop bite in the aftertaste.

I was moderately dissapointed in this beer. It had a nice sweet taste but wasn’t very full. The aftertaste wasn’t very good and the taste did not linger. Not a bad beer but was expecting more.

An excellent amber. Pours true and clear amber with a puffy white head. Aroma of roasted caramel malt and some hops. Very smooth taste and perfectly balanced between the sweet malt and hop bite. A rare case of being hoppy, but not falling into the "weak IPA" category.

This one was a gusher. Pours with a large foamy off white head. Cloudy golden amber in appearance with some floaties, head retained and laced nicely. Aroma was a nice roasty caramel malt with some sweet citrus. I really liked the hop/malt balance in the aroma. Flavors of the same with a slight bitter hop very well balanced by the malty backbone.

Prohibition Ale pours to a beautiful, slightly hazy amber color with a nice white head that fades, and a good carbonation. The nose on this beer is very vibrant with a big punch of citric hop aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The palate if firm, with lots of sweet caramel malty flavors, paired with some estery, plummy fruit notes. Prohibition Ale finishes with some more caramel and fruit up front, then ends with a long, dry, very zesty lemon and grapefruit rind bitterness that lingers on the tongue. This is an outstanding Amber Ale from a fantastic little San Francisco microbrewery. The hop character in this beer is quite aggressive, but I like the fact that it does indeed have enough malt heft, to make this a very well done amber ale. This beer is very food friendly and would work with a number of dishes, from steaks and chops, to salmon to sword fish. At 6.1% abv, it will sneak up on you if you decide to a few of these, so be careful as this beer is very, very drinkable.

Without that standout toasted caramel maltiness this could very easily pass for an apa. Big on the hoppy scale, the malts are solid and stnadalone but is definitely more biased on the hops. Somewhat sweet and leads into a bitterness that keeps the mouthfeel quite lively and never gets boring. Decent.
