Amazing aroma of american hops: pine, orange, grapefruit, bitter apricot, blueberry. Not a whole lot of toffee in the nose, but it comes through more and more with each sip, offsetting very well the piney / citrusy hops flavou. Some coffee notes. The only flaw in this beer was that it was just a tiny bit astringent at the very end. Medium to full body and medium carbonation. Excellent. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 18, 2005 Orange-pine-grapefruit hop nose with strong tea-like tannins. Burnished copper coloured body with thin tan head that lasts nicely and leaves some lace. Very tannic flavour with subdued orange-pine hop flavour and fair to moderate bitterness is almost like a lightly bitter iced tea. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Bottle (trade Mar. 2005) enjoyed with asheft and Pitpit. Thanks, DocLock! frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2005 Bought primarily because of the shifty eyes on the neck of the bottle, this slightly cloudy, amber-colored ale poured with a slowly diminishing, large fizzy head. The aromas were citrusy hops, honey and caramel... "agressively hopped" as ambers go, but not as "over the top" as I expected. Sour fruity flavor with light astringency in a long finish. Rich malt base with a very elegant hops and grapefruits and pears. Fruitiness is excellent. Good balance. Tap. CNY Brewfest Feb. 5 2005. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 10, 2005 Nice easy drinking hoppy dry amber. More resinous and bitter than usual for style but more to my liking prsonally. Some caramel and crystal malt notes with a touch of roast. willblake (2180), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 8, 2005 03.07.05 12oz bottle Honey golden pour with thick tan head and craterous lace. Floral and citrus aromas, a bit musty and grainy. Thin palate quickly distributes a softly floral and sharply, pleasantly bitter brew with a mild flavor only lasting a moment. I like it when ambers have a bolder hop profile like this but it certainly could be mistaken for an APA. Average example of a nice session amber. I don’t see what it gains from the relatively high 6.1% alcohol. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 25, 2005 Nice-looking dark copper ale. Light white lacing resting on the top. Smells very pleasant: bitter, hoppy and just slightly sweet and very inviting. The flavor is too thin, though and overly bitter for an amber, in my opinion. Not very well balanced. The finish is metallic.
