It started showing up in bottles in the SF Bay Area in 2000 and has been increasing in availability ever since. Tastes to me like lots of tasty Cascase hops added late in the boil and again dry hopped in the secondary conditioning phase. Nice crystal-malt sweetness that blends excellently with the hop flavors. Highly recommended. I could have sworn this beer tasted even better about 2-3 years ago, but it’s still very good. VAYankee (248), Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 23, 2004 Clear, dark amber body with a cream colored head. Pungent - malt base with strong hoppiness and a touch of honey sweetness. Body is a bit thin. Caramel malt flavor is present but slightly subverted by a smokey flavor. Hops lead to a dry, grassy aftertaste. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice citrusy hop nose. A somewhat earthy smoke flavor with a little roasted malt and a subtle hop finish. Grassy hop flavors linger in the aftertaste. Different for an amber but very interesting. Nice fruity/hoppy nose. The flavor is more of a smoky caramel than I expected after the aroma ... with a light citric finish. A different combo than ordinary. Nice combo of heavy and hoppy. It had a pine and grapefruit nose and mouth, but the mouth had a hint of brown sugar sweetness. The beer was really tangy and aggressive w/ good effervescence. Again I am getting a touch of honey in the aroma, just like I did with their India Pale Ale, along with a touch of caramel covered red apples, toffee and a huge resinous hop scent. Watery texture and very thin in body. Notes of caramel, toffee, bright fruits and west coast hops. Overall, just very bland. hopdog (5606), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Golden amber in color with a little bit of cloudiness to it. Smells almost exclusively of sweet malt (I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing for you; for me - good). Found it not as well-hopped as advertised, perhaps overwhelmed by the malt? Slightly bitter as well. Very nice ale.
