Wonderfully flavorful roasted, amber malts are blended with hops, bursting with character. This is the beer that got me to love hops, after turning down pint after pint of IPAs. If you want to know how to turn hops and malt into heaven, this is the beer for you. lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Nice amount of hops and malt that balance eachother out well. A bit of grains and spice that reminds me of arrogant bastard a little bit, but not so up front. Taste just goes back and forth between a stinging bitter and smooth malt. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 20, 2009 From bottle. Has a nice roasted malt character, with a little nutty-hop astringency and light metallic twang. No fruitiness or diacetyl. A bit of dusty grain and chocolate. Dark brown clear, with foamy lacing off-white head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Pretty smooth. Starts with a bit of roasted grain and chocolate but remains fairly dry. Underlying sweetness that’s subdued by a bit of astringency and nutty bitterness. Light herbal-floral hop character but not overly bitter. Nice bitter-sweet finish. nickd717 (1389), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Wow, this stuff is surprisingly good considering I was originally dismissive of the brewery due to my ridiculous beer elitism. Amber ale meets IPA, this is caramel malt and lots of hops (Cascade, maybe some Amarillo). Piney, floral, and citrusy with a slight sweetness from the malt. Nice fairly full palate with some hop oils present. If Prohibition Ale was still illegal, I’d definitely be breakin’ the law. Sparky27 (1608), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a 2 finger foamy beige head that results in great lacing. The nose is malt and floral hops. Taste is caramel malt, light citrus and some resin in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Pretty decent. stchloe (491), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2009 As an amber ale it is very hoppy and bitter. Nice balance between an IPA and amber, very crisp as well with a good mouth feel. scrizzz (1330), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Slight haze, small head dissipated to a thick ring. Closest I’ve seen a beer come to what I would call amber. Hop forward aroma, plenty of milk caramel there too. Great amber with a gritty brown sugar foundation that ebbs and flows with the leafy earthy hops. Finishes balanced with the different flavors resonating throughout my mouth. Underrated
