Tap at Rattle n Hum: Brown auburnpour with a wispy tan head. Rich dessert like aroma with notes of brown sugar, sweet hazelnut, vanilla, and rum raisin ice cream- very candyish. Creamy slick and sweet. The flavor is indeed copious rye as the description suggests. Has notes of rum cake, toasted vanilla and hazelnut. A bit sweet, but it does have a balancing spicy rye note under the sweeter chocolate rye character. Acceptable as a dessert beer.

Great looking amber hued brown body. Thick ecru head. Wonder rye spice character that is somewhat grainy with good chocolate notes and some light hints of almond and coffee.

Dark topsoil brown in the glass, dense sticky tan head. Strong aroma of dry dense rye, apparently they used three different types of rye in this, reminds me of a forgotten room. Soft and easy on the palate, nothing at all like anything about 5%, until maybe the end where the heat and a hint of spirits creep in. Overall this is a shining rye beer in an industry devoid of them.

quite enjoyable. fairly dark brown with orange highlights. sweet aroma of dark fruit and caramel. the rye comes through in the taste with some roastiness. lighter and more drinkable then expected at 8.1% ABV.

8/10/09 from draft sample bottle. Aroma is malt forward with substantial caramel, medium roast and very slight sourness. Appearance is clear reddish copper with a medium maintained off-white head and foam lacing. Flavor is sweet, almost candilike malt forward with a great blend of roast and noble hop spiciness to balance. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a touch of creaminess and medium carb texture that blends with a light graininess and warmth. Overall, a suprisingly full bodied and and flavored rye beer with a punch that sets it apart in almost every regard.

On tap at RFD in Washington D.C. Pours a copper, transparent amber with a thin, creamy, white head. Spicy nose, grainy, earthy, malty, with some nice hop citrus aromas. Flavor is nice, oranges, candy, spicy, grain, toasted malts. Dry finish. I enjoyed this, the rye comes through well.

On tap. Warm orangey brown with a creamy beige head. Sweet caramel aroma. Medium body, sweet caramel and a little fruit with a warming alcohol in the finish. Delicious. 100709
