Commercial Description:
SPEIGHT’S® Gold Medal Ale is a full strength bitter ale with a hint of “grassy” undertones that add to its complexity. The use of SPEIGHT’S® malts and hops produces the full flavour that has been synonymous with the Pride of the South since 1876.

No aroma to speak of, very pale brown golden. Only drinking it because it was free and there was nothing else available - weddings do that too you. I tried and tried to find anything good about it - the flavour is slightly malty, but so thin and watery you’d struggle to pick it; the sugar they’ve used to get it 4.0% gives it a dry, tasteless finish.

Golden color with white head. Soft aroma of yeast, some hops and caramel. A bit water, but very drinkable and thirst quenching. Flavor dissipates quickly.

Appearance, surprisingly, decent copper/rust colour. Faint nuttiness in the bouquet and ends there. Flavour wise theres not much to talk about. A little malt, tiniest amount of hops, and maybe even a tad of caramel. Not a bad light beer but it definitely does not live up to the hype Ive been hearing about this.

Got some weird looks ordering pints of this in Christchurch... Heard the diarrhoea horror stories too, had it the first time I tried it, but have been fine since. Malty aroma, a bit weak though. Lovely moorish caramel and malt taste, fairly low carbonation, nice smooth mouthfeel. Fairly dry aftertaste. Good stuff, was very impressed after all the bullshit stories people fed me.

Nice copper orangy colour. poured a tiny bit of white head which did not last with a tiny bit of lacing - almost zero bubbles. light dry/ fruity / carmel malt aroma. Empty creamy mouthfeel - leave your mouth very dry - but that probally from ruining my tongue on 150 grams of Rave salt and vinegar chips (Yesterday!!! - still suffering a bit - probally not the best day for a tasting of yummy brew). Great sweet malt flavour with some floral undertones considering the hefty 4% mind-blowing alcohol content. Very good beer....I’m listening to Ratt - Out of the Cellar right now - I’m insane...wore this tape to nothing...might have to pick it up on CD at London Drugs clearance crate for $3.99- wonder if i can rock out as well as i did when i was 8? I’m an old decrepit man now.

Speights!? Well, all the stories have been told about this ale. ’Gives you the shits", "goes right through you", etc. As a big beer drinker, and many others will agree, one always goes back to speights, why? because I believe the sugar content is low, without compromising the taste and body, and you can drink copious amounts after your gut has accepted the onslaught.Personally, I LOVE it!

Bottle. Deep golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is fruit, caramel, malt. Flavour is fruit, malt, caramel, hint of hop. Medium to thin body. Boring beer.
