Commercial Description:
Cask; Status uncertain. (Described by the brewery as a Seasonal, but doesn't specify which season/s).
Sgt. Pepper Stout is a full-bodied stout laced with black pepper (yes, it really does have freshly ground black pepper!) which is complemented by a generous spicy hop balance. A mixture of Maris Otter pale malt, Amber malt and Pale Chocolate malt are all used along with a traditional addition of Northern Brewer & Fuggle hops which give an assertive hop balance to the brew. What else could it be called other than ‘Sgt. Pepper’… it’s almost as if The Beatles named their song especially for it…. A distinctively different take on stout, this ‘big’ beer is proving to be extremely popular.

Bottle. Dark with a strange spiciness. Some bitter but the spices dominate. Hands up to them for trying to something different but it just didn’t come off for me.

Tk2 deep black huge pepper malt front nose ... wonderfull soft gentle stout ... light roast ... nice pepperyness... bitter linger... even better with a shot of 3F DARKLORD added as it just adds a little more sweetness and a little body

The aroma, not surprisingly, is dominated by pepper though there is a rich smokiness as well giving an overall smell of what I can only decribe as Steak Diane. The flavour is an overload of pepper; like eating a whole peppercorn. Nice idea, but a bit off the mark.

Bottle from Red Zebra in Derby. This beer is so black it is opaque. Unsurprisingly, the flavour and aroma are dominated by pepper. It is an extremely rich, chewy, meaty beer. You would not want too many of these in one go.

Cask, Hinckley Fest 08. Dark brown, near black with a beige head. Aromas are coffee and earthy roast malts with floral notes and lots of grapefruit. Smoky and woody with an almost rauchbier smokiness. Flavours are roast malts with floral notes. Sharp grapefruit bitterness. Some berry fruit. Peppery at the back of the throat. Very peppery on the finish.

Opening beer at the Inaugural Knickersby Fest 08. Pitch with tan halo. Bovril snout with nutty vegetal notes, freshly sliced red chilli, liquorice, more Bovril, roast. Sprinkle of pepper burn, big liquorice and Marmite saltiness approaching the Baltic, peppercorn sauce, plenty of roasted malt. Just the right balance of pepper and roast without descending into novelty beer territory.Lingers pleasantly with smoke. Strange and tasty.

Cask at peterborough beer fest. Alround rating: This was apparently like a super peppered up vertion of the normal. Aroma is meaty and super peppery, like roasted malts cooked with just pepper, floural hops try to sneak in, but its all about the insane pepper character.

Cask@1st Hinckley Beer Festival, 2008. Black beer with a light head. The aroma is oatmeal and slightly pork sausage like/sausage role. The flavour is bitter, spiced , burn’t and peppery which makes the drink hot to the back of the throat. Overall a weird beer.
