| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 23, 2009 Tap at Spuyten. Pours a deep dark murky brown with a thin lasting off white head. aroma is phenolicy with some clove and light vanilla notes, with light caramel and a dry chocolate earthy character. Flavor is pretty good- lots of dark wheats, toasted malts, yeasty phenolics and some slight fruity ester tones. Mouthfeel and finish seemed pretty smooth but the carbonation was a bit dull for a weizen- seemed a bit lackluster overall. Ok though. Beerman6686 (1287), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 14, 2007 Draught: Lightly bitter aroma. Smells of banana, bubblegum, floral hops, and berries. Poured dark dark brown/black in color with a small, creamy, tan, head that diminished slowly. Odd flavor. Tasted of hops, bubblegum, light malts, and a little chocolate. Light to medium body. Thin, dry texture. Soft carbonation. Dry finish. Overall, does not smell or look anything like it tastes. Kinda the whole kitchen sink in one beer flavorwise. Boring. Not good, not bad. Aroma was not very strong but could pick up some wheatiness to it. Pour was a dark black with a one finger off white head. That black color suprised me- I don’t think of dunkels being this dark. Taste was very different as well. Very complex- some roastiness and light fruit and a dry and sweet aftertaste. My only problem is the thin mouthfeel that almost feels watered down. Not bad but I would like to try a bottle if they bottle it. cheapdark (2017), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA

This beer is dark brown and hazy and you can’t see thru it. Just like an unfiltered wheat but dark. No head to speak of. Can’t see thru this brew. Smell is wheatish, good wheat aromas. Cannot detect much spices. Oh, this stuff is good, right from the very first taste. No bitterness can be detected. Where is the alcohol? Better be careful with this, it is way too smooth. I must warn you, dunkelweizen is one of my favorite styles! There are also complexities of roasted-ness in there as well. Again, where is the bitterness? How lovely. Friendly and easy to get along with. Impy stout and IIPA lovers may not dig the splayed back attitude of this beer. Good, welcomed medium carbonation. Does seem just a little too laid back at times, but not in a negative way, you know, more acceptable! Beautiful finish, gentle and smooth. Would not hesitate to get more of this again. Dunkleweizen is great.
