Little but VERY strange aroma, not in a good way, fruity herbs, sweet. Acidic flavor, light plum, strong alc in finish, sugar slimieness covers tongue. Medium to thick palate that feels a little creamy. Not very impressed but glad that Sprecher is offering some interesting conversion beeers.5/3/6/3/11 -------- sampled blind at "Better Know a Style: Abbey Tripel" tasting. Clear dark amber, small off-white head. Red fruit, dough, alc, caramel. Toffee flavor with alc, aged notes, poor. Medium fizzy body. A little gross. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 4, 2007 Tap at the Blind Tiger. Hazy amber-orange beer. Soft fruity aroma, cherry, berry, and a bit of clove. Warming intensifies the fruity aromas. There is also a bit of unpolished estery character retronasally. Flavour is okay, with light fruity cherry and a hint of spice. It’s a bit dusty and underattenuated though. Not a great brew. Meh. Glouglouburp (2839), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Well malted body with a caramelized-honey feel to it. Pineapples, orange and citrus fruits. Rather sweet, maybe a bit too sweet actually, some hops to balance it off would have been nice but the they unfortunately remain elusive. Overall a very drinkable beer but with so many excellent tripels easily available this one is out-classed like a hobo in a fancy-dressed ball. mkofron (155), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Cloudy orange with tiny head. There is something off putting about the aroma and taste that I can’t put my finger on. Did not enjoy this one at all. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Apr 25, 2007 Clear, golden-hued, with slim head, honey-orange color...
Citric aroma, light spice, but...unremarkable...the carbonation affects the aroma more than anything else...odd.
On the tongue...unimpressive, very faint impression on the palate, lays limply in the mouth. Orange and lemon, with a trickle of honey, and then, ...nothing. Doesn’t stay on the palate, doesn’t make any impact at all. Booze is high, but character is missing. Little spice or zest or special yeast or malt to make it memorable at all.
Very disappointing.
I’d go into detail, but really, I’d prefer to get this over with...at $5 a bomber, I can’t afford to dump it out, but I really won’t enjoy the conclusion of this vessel.
"By using a Belgian Trappist triple yeast culture, balanced with the finest imported pale barley, malted wheat, and oats, give this delectable golden ale a fruity bouquet and a refined taste.", says the label.
Wait, despite how the beer fails in comparison to the label’s claims, that sentence doesn’t even work grammatically!
Think about it! Re-read that sucker. Damn, make sure your label copy reads correct, that’s all I gotta say! sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 23, 2007 Pint bottle. Slightly hazy amber orange with a minimal head. Aroma of light caramel, candi, quick bread, spice, banana. Sweet and mildly spicy bread malt flavor. Any real carbonation in the body dies after several minutes, but a somewhat citrusy and clovey finish combined with a bit of pepper on the aftertaste works to mask the flatness. Lacking in any thought- provoking complexity, but not otherwise that terrible. notalush (2664), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 22, 2007 Tap at Blind Tiger - well, the beer sure ain’t much to look at - no head, with a body that looks completely still - pretty thin aroma, with mild fruity esters and candi sugar - flat on the palate - peppery, with fairly strong floral qualities, high sweetness, some grain and light earthiness - the sweetness starts to overpower as it warms, washing out any complexity the beer attempts to have - lacking depth, but I might try this again. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2007 Updated: Jun 8, 20071 pt bottle poured in a trappist glass. This beer pours a pretty tangerine with little to no head. It smells like bubble gum and fruit. This is a beautiful looking and smelling beer but it doesn’t have much substance. It’s a bit thin and boring. It isn’t bad, it just isn’t anything much at all. I’m a little disappointed but I would not hesitate to drink this again. ,br>
I’m rating this again very similarly but this time I think I taste of bit of tangerine or other sweet orange-like fruit. I’ve upped the appearance to a perfect 5. It’s just a beautiful beer.
