A hint of yeast and some candy sugar as well. I think I smell wax too. Flavor is mostly yeast and grain. Alcohol is hidden well. A little lacking, but still it is alright. Only slightly flavorful, Fruit is all I taste, Not even an alcohol flavor for the%. Really wanted to like this one, but didn’t, a disapointment! beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 16, 2005 This triple pours a deep orange gold color from a 160z bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, hints of coriander and orange. A medium to lighter bodied tripel. Malts are fruity and sweet, lots of orange. Peach and apricot flavors. Smooth taste. Hides the 8.6% alcohol very well. It really doesn’t have those qualities one would expect in a Belgian style ale. The bright yeasts and carbonation seem to be very different. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Rastacouere (5561), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Totally clear light orange, almost headless. Sweet curacao, coriander and globally herbal nose immediately reminds of doughy spices and caramalt. More orange and honeyed malty notes show up in mouth, but the general impression remains of lightness in texture, a spicy and biting small bubbled bite that fails to affect its taster particularly. Highly effervescent sparkling palate comes and accentuates the weightlessness even more. beerbuzzmontreal (2916), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 23, 2005 Slightly cloudy golden pour with a ring of white lace. Sweet aroma of apples and cinnamon. The flavor is sweet with apples and cinnamon. The body is light with low carbonation. I agree with MartinT, this doesn’t feel like a tripel at all. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 21, 2005 Updated: Apr 23, 2007The Lure: Lazy cereal grazing about in a pumpkin field. Oranges and coriander attempt to enliven the place, but so far this has nothing to do at all with Abbey Tripels. Quiet and unassuming, sleep-inducing.
The Festivities: A frail, malnourished body cannot block the alcohol heat. This alcohol isn’t too prominent, but there are so few flavors here that you notice it. Curacao is perceivable, but where are the malts, the hops? This is an amber ale, not a tripel at all, and boring amber ale at that.
Transcendence: The wonder of filing cabinets.
Another bottle yielded lots of sweet honeyed cereals morphing into orangey fruitiness (Curaçao?). The finish was watery and simple, and alcohol fusels were still perceptible. A little better, but still far from what these guys are able to brew. Crash (449), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Nov 18, 2005 Pours cloudy with no head or lacing. It was strange but, it had a sour smell and taste. It wasn’t candy sour but, almost milk sour. It was drinkable but, not by much. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 28, 2005 Pour is a cloudy brown with no head. Aroma is hard to detect. Its slightly fruity with some breadyness. Flavor is WOW super sweet sugar all around. The alcohol was hidden quite well but only b/c of the overpowering sweetness. Not a good rep of the style.
