Commercial Description:
This intensely dark Kulmbacher style lager has a superb malt complexity with the distinctive flavors and aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A renowned smoothness and a creamy, tan head make it an all-time brewery favorite.

Pours an epic obsidian black. An oatmeal tan head, fluffy and thick, rises authoritively above the body. This beer looks lovely in a classic Schwarzbier style glass. It smells fresh and roasty, complex and intriguing, with caramelly malt, milk chocolate, brown sugar, licorice, and dry, dark fruits. There is a softness to the aroma, which is inviting and pleasant, almost gentle. Yet when the first sip is taken, the soft aroma gives way to a very straight-forward, mocha-like taste, burnt and toasty, with raisins, cocoa, damson and plums. However porter-like this might first seem, the mouthfeel gives way to a smooth, velvety creaminess, and ends crisp, satisfying and pleasantly bittersweet, reminding the drinker that this is in fact a lager, and a very impressive dark lager indeed.

Outstanding beer that delivers both sweet and bitter taste at the same time. Very pleasant nose that smells faintly of chocolate and yet not a really an overdone scent. Doesn’t linger on the palate, but not a thin finish either. Well balanced and moderately drinkable, though probably not around a barbecue when it is 85 degrees outside.

I really love this beer. It’s nutty aroma, chocolate overtones, rich burnt coffee aroma, make this a complex and enjoyable finish to my day, Excellent1

Bottle, pilsner glass. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a thin tan head that disspates without leaving lacing. Aroma of molasses, with a hint of raspberry. Presents strong flavors of malt and molasses, with a touch of chocolate and the beginning. Cola without the corn syrup. Not viscous, but carbonation sparkles on the tongue. Finishes with toasted barley with a tinge of bitter hops. The lips and tongue become coated with a film that later provide a phenolic sensation and a complex group of long-lingering flavors, including chocolate, sourdough toast, bold coffee, and flowers.

Hell, wow. Never know what to expect from black beers or Sprecher since my growler mishap, but impressed and enthralled. Definitely would get this black bitch again.

Aroma is of roasted barley and full of bruntness with slight aroma of chocolate. Palate is smooth and yet very full. Would buy again.

Tap at Redlight Redlight. Served in a half liter mug. Pours black with hints of red and a thick tan head. Roasty grain aroma with hints of smoky malt and chocolate. Tatse is smooth roasted grains, chocolate malt with a thick smooth mouthfeel. Finishes very clean, tasty.
