Commercial Description:
This intensely dark Kulmbacher style lager has a superb malt complexity with the distinctive flavors and aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A renowned smoothness and a creamy, tan head make it an all-time brewery favorite.

Aroma: Espresso, burnt sugar, licorice, and lumber/sawdust. Appearance: Burnt coffee black with a deep purple tone. Creamy, light tan, latte-colored head with pretty, sparkly little bubbles. Flavor: Coffee, charred malts, dark cocoa, and there’s a kind of odd mineral taste that reminds me of snow or ice that’s been in the freezer too long. Finish is nice and espresso bean-bitter. Peaty notes and vodka-like alcohol comes through as the beer warms. Pretty tasty. Palate: A tad syrupy and rather heavy. Not particularly creamy or smooth, but not overwhelming. Overall: Bold and complex, this is something that should be emjoyed one at a time. Would pair nicely with roast beef or a rare steak.

Dark brown with medium tan head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malts, chocolate. Creamy texture with flavors of roasted malts, chocolate and light caramel. Pretty good for a Sprecher.

Absolutely, without a doubt a stellar beer. I had wanted to try this beer for a very long time and thanks to some generous traders, my wish was suddenly reality. I’ve had a few beers from Sprecher. Most were average to above average so this, by far, is my favorite.

The beer pours out a jet black liquid, a nice light brown two-finger thick head with some legs on it. Aroma that I was picking up was chocolate, coffee, caramel chews. Flavor left me wondering if this in fact wasn’t some kind of stout. It had several of the same characteristics of a stout. Roasted/coffeeish malts, dark chocolate, and molasses. Mouthfeel was so smooth and clean. Somehow it just seemed light as air. Just superb.

Bottle, Very dark, nearly black. Not much head. Coffee-like aroma. Flavor is sweet at first, but a dark roastiness then comes through leaving a smoky aftertaste. Well-made beer, but I’m not enthralled with smoke. Softly carbonated.

On draft at GL. Pours a dark cola with a burgundy tint and a creamy medium sized beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and baking chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, baking chocolate and rust.

Pours black with a large creamy tan head..wonderful. Large roasted chocolate malt aroma, with a touch of peat and coffee. Mmmmm... this beer kicks-ass. Sweet complex roasted maltiness. Coffee, smoked peat and light chocolate - the trifecta. The balanced and subtly really make it. Light bodied, with the classic Sprecher light fluffy creaminess. Great beer, quaffable indeed!

On tap at Mr.Goodbar
Appearance: Dark brown going into black. Creamy coffee like head. 4-
Nose : Lightly roasted aroma , hint of quality beans and toasted grain.6+
Flavor/Palate : Medium , light bodied . slight sour charcoal like malts. Long lasting impression. Thin front with but finish was much better.

Pours wonderful from the 16 oz bottle. Dark dark brown, almost black with a thich tan head, almost 1 1/2-2 in. Smooth roasty aromas, with hints of light chocolate, very caramelly aroma. Very rich roasted malt flavor, some bittersweet chocolate, hints of charcoal and smoke, extremely smooth flavors! 1 of if not the best swartzbier i’ve had!
