| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 6, 2008 bottle- real funky and undesirable smoke- bbq chicken like aroma immediately hit me. Thankfully, this subsided, but then the metallic c02 scents started coming up. I got past the aroma once I started drinking, and found this to be a pleasant roasty brew. At first, this tasted like a nice robust porter, and I was pleased. Some dark chocolate there too. The it warmed, and that’s where the smoke started coming in. Not typical of the style, and not welcome. Probably would not seek this out again. after4ever (2828), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Apr 2, 2008 22, screw-capped and waxed. Thanks, Kim! Pours black with gentle rubied highlights in the corners. Lovely. Big nose of molasses, caramel, smoke, roast, and spent grain. Delicate medium body with very little, very fine carb. All the molasses, caramel, smoke, roast, and spent grain return for the mid-palte, before washing into a brief nutty finish. This is the kind of lager that could convince me to drink a lot more lagers. The body’s definitely nowhere near as big and satisfying and comforting as an ale of this color, but the cleanliness of it has a magic all its own. mreusch (743), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Bottle with thanks to Ofortuna, and my first Schwarzbier! Pours a dark brown with a two finger creamy tan head that lingers quite a while, minimal lacing. Aroma is roasty and sweet, with caramel, toffee, to a much lesser extent, some coffee and chocolate. Flavor is malty and also a bit sweet, with more caramel, toffee and a bit of cola. Very quaffable, but not really my thing. Thanks again David! grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2008 Bottle thanks to Ty5592. Poured a deep black color with a thick, creamy tan head that slowly faded and left nice lacing. Aroma of chocolate, light caramel and coffee, a hint of roast and lager yeast. Smooth, light chocolate entry with undertones of caramel and a nice malt character. A bit of light hops and a drying, chalky finish. My description isn’t doing it justice, but it is a very tasty beer. Smooth and easy to drink, definitely better than I anticipated. Thanks Ty! wheatfreak (41), Marinette, Wisconsin, USA

This beer presents itself with a reddish, dark body and a two finger, tan head. Nice mouthfeel. A pretty complex schwarzbier. I could drink a couple of these. HomeBrewHawk (282), De Soto, Kansas, USA
