| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2008 Wax-dipped bomber. Dark black beer, thin tan head. Very rich aroma. Toasted caramel and molasses, clean cold coffeeish character as well. Fairly complex maltiness with cocoa, toasted rye and a lovely well-lagered character. Lightly smoky and a bit salty. Rich palate, a bit rummy with heavy caramel and coffee. Excellent. mmmbeer (765), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 16, 2008 16 oz. bottle in trade with ketchepillar- poured into my trusty stein- poured black, light tan formed and slowly dissolved away like in a Dali painting. Aroma of slightly roasted malt, sugar, molasses, and coffee. Hits the mouth with a great medium body, elements of smoke, malt, coffee, and dark chocolate from start to finish, which is solid. Now this is beer!!! hellbilly (1534), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2008 bottle provided by indra... cola colored pour with a quickly disappearing reddish brown head. aroma is woody, molasses, black raisins, sweet malt and banana like lager yeast. the flavor is quite similar...it’s got a salty element to it along with a light ashiness in the malts and some chocolate. the finish is acidic followed by ashiness. no aftertaste to speak of. body and texture are medium but richer considering the style. it smells and tastes like a baltic porter with a thinner body. quite a complex brew! Aroma is malty with undertones of smoke, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is of coffee and chocolate with hints of caramel sweetness. Very smooth taste. Not a bitter aftertaste with a bit of carbonation that lightens the body. Another good beer by Sprecher. Beer2000 (1828), Kristiansand, Norway
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 8, 2008 Bottle. Dark red/brown almost black body with a small beige head. Looking great. Moderat malty aroma. Flavor is gentle roasted malt, some caramel, otherwise quite clean malt flavor. Not much bitter, light, refreshing and harmonic but I’m not exactly impressed.
