Commercial Description:
This intensely dark Kulmbacher style lager has a superb malt complexity with the distinctive flavors and aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A renowned smoothness and a creamy, tan head make it an all-time brewery favorite.

bottle at Houston Beer Tasting. Pours opaque with very thin off-white head. Interesting roast malt aroma. Taste surprised me! This had chocolate, coffee and roasted flavor with texture unexpected from a lager. This was a lager that wanted to be a porter! And I like porters.

From the bottle, it pours black, seeming almost without any carbonation whatsoever, with a small, dense, light bornw head that steadily dissipated to a thick ring. The aroma is a rich roasted earthy chocolate and coffee with other less clear elements. The taste is similar to the aroma, but lighter than first expected. It has definite coffee, chocolate, toasted malt, and even some flowery/spice elements, with a nice blend of sweet and bitter. The flavour is strong and lasting, but light and exceedingly smooth. It is more carbonated than it first appeared and it has a pleasant, lively yet creamy palate. It is rich and satisfying without being heavy and is light, delicious, and exceedingly drinkable.

First Official Houston Tasting. Thanks to BigGreen (BA) for bringing this. Great dark pour with garnet glints and a very thin edge-head. Aroma of nicely roasted malts with chocolate, clove and licorice. Very nice porter-like taste with cocoa and cooked sugar in the flavor. Creamy mouthfeel with a wonderful roasty finish. Truly enjoyed this beer.

Bottle received via trade with Beerlando. Pours black with a spare, rocky and bubbly light brown head, somewhat lasting with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, bread, toasted grain), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of charcoal and brown sugar. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Long duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. Nice lightly roasted malt flavor with hints of chocolate.

16 oz. bottle. Pours out a gorgeous black/brown, creating a medium/small tan head. It has an aroma of heavy thick malt with no detectable hops at all. Tastes of coffee, burnt caramel and molasses. Once again very heavy malt flavor with very little hops. It is smooth and has a nice mouth feel. Overall flavor is lightly sweet but good. As it warms up the burnt caramel/molasses flavor becomes much more prominent. Overall this is a nice beer that I will try again.

Pours a dark blackish brown with thin creamy head. Toasty aroma of coffee. again coffee in flavor with a bitter bite. Leaves a smoky trail. A bit one dimensional but very good for what it is. Taste is more like a Porter than a Schwarzbier.

Bomber. Dark brown/black color with a thin beige head. Rich dark roast malt aroma of chocolate and toffee, like a goumet candy-creme. Some traces of espresso. Dark and robust mocha java flavor with some earthy charred wood/leaf notes on the finish. Nice roasty bitterness to complement the dark richness of the malts. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Very enjoyable.
