Commercial Description:
This intensely dark Kulmbacher style lager has a superb malt complexity with the distinctive flavors and aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A renowned smoothness and a creamy, tan head make it an all-time brewery favorite.

Pours opaque with foamy brown head. WOW!! This was a surprise. Hoppy sweet fruity with lots of roast, coffee, and no strange flavors. Very nice! I don’t know the style at all, but I LOVE this brew. More smooth and refined than one would expect.

In the aroma, I find a very roasty and dark malt complexion that has me curious how it’s going to taste. Well, it too (the flavor) has a rich and roasted malt character and is quite fizzy with carbonation to make for an interesting drink. Pitch black liquid with a tanned topping of head.

Mind you when you find the best it is only the best till you have better. I have yet to have better. Again schwarzbeirs are my bread & butter but I rate for the style on each rating not personal favorites. HOLY S***!!!!!! what a good beer & I cant even have it on draft! But it still lays waste to every black beer I have had, draft or otherwise. I live in SC. & have a buddy in WI that brings it when he can. A PERFECT example of what this style is all about!!

Solid black body with hints of chestnut brown at the edges when held to a light source. Small, foamy, light tan head settles relatively quickly to a small rim. Minimal spotty, sudsy lacing dots the glass. The nose is comprised of rich caramel, nougat, and chocolate malts, accompanied by indiscernible dark fruits and hints of vanilla. The flavor shows lightly roasted chocolate malts, caramel, nougat, and lightly oaked vanilla. There is minimal hop bitterness, though the oak adds a sharpness that helps to balance out the sweet malts. Medium-full body with a substantial, slick mouthfeel. Short chocolate finish. Incredibly flavorful for a Schwarzbier. Resembles an Old Ale in many ways. Very solid.

12oz bottle. pours dark w/ fizzy small tan head that didn’t last long at all. sorta looks like cola. nose isn’ tmuch but some coffee and roast. flavor is roasty, stale coffee. mouth feel is light and fizzy. over carbonated. i never liked this beer on tap and i don’t like it bottled. can’t figure out the high ratings, maybe it has gone down hill over the years.

16oz bottle. Pours a Guinness-like thick, cloudy black with a mocha-colored head. Aroma is twofold with a strong stout-like bouquet of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, and coffee alongside a subtler lager-like aroma of earth and yeast. Body is medium and tart with an initial bitterness giving way to flavors of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. A truly wonderful schwarzbier that shows a great deal of complexity.

Nice black pour with small amber head. Aroma strong of chocolate and coffee. Taste matches aroma but mouth is a little thin.

16 oz.bottle. Pours black with deep ruby highlights. Decent sized tan head. The aroma is mediumsweet with good roasted malt character, caramel, and chocolate. The flavor is much of the same with the roasted and chocolate malts blending nicely. There is mild bitterness to balance the medium sweetness. Smooth medium body. A solid schwarzbier.
