| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Bottle; poured a dark brown-almost black. Minimal head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Flavor initially slightly sweet, but that fades away. Some light bitterness, with most of the flavor being roasted malt and chocolate. Almost tasted like a porter. Good for the style. natejgood (190), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 29, 2007 This is a dark, dark lager. The head is extrememly this and was gone almost as soon as it appeared. This beer smells like a lager, but with a hint of cloves or some other spice in the background. This beer has a thick, malty flavor. There may be some chocolate and coffee in the background as well. The flavor almost adds a creamy texture to the beer. Dark lagers aren’t my favorite, but for a dark lager this is a pretty great beer. It might be just a little sweet for my liking, but other than that it’s pretty tasty. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2007 Dark brown, nearly black color with a medium head. Aroma is pleasantly malty with some roasty grain, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor is a really nice roasty grain with some nice hop bitterness, chocolate, and coffee. Somewhat porterish, but very unique. I’ve never had a schwarzbier this good, and can see why its tops in style. Almost black in color, thin deep brown head. Sweet smell of dark roasted malts. Nice thick mouth feel with a lasting aftertaste, but not too heavy. Sweet at first and then a little bitter, with a persistent taste of the dark roasted malts. Good desert beer. CapFlu (3483), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
