Solid aroma of roasted coffee and light cocoa. Flavor includes light burnt caramel and hazelnut as well. Moderate bitterness imparts a dry finish. Rich mouthfeel, yet extremely drinkable. A pleasant surprise from Sprecher! smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Wonderful aroma, Malt, a nice rich coffee, and earthy undertones. Appearance did it for me, I’m a sucker for a thick dark beer with a nice tan head. Overall a great beer, definitely one I’ll be drinking more of. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2007 Bottle. Pours deep, dark, rich, oily brown with the faintest amber highlights. Great nose: roasted malt, smoked (almost burnt) wood, peat, roasted coffee.... very nice. Full and rich on the palate. A little weaker flavor than expected given the intense complexity of the nose. Still quite nice though. Full bodied and rich with the roasted malt shining through. Driftwood6 (214), USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2007 Bottle in Milwaukee. I thought this was an excellent schwarzbier. Probably a little fuller in malt flavor than the Kulmbacher schwarzbier-- wh ich I also liked. Definitely rich and full in taste and body-- would like to try sometime on tap. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

The beer looks pretty clear on the pour, but opaque in the glass. The head is average in size and is foamy, somewhat puffy in texture, and mocha in color. I leaves layer-like lacing and the residual crown looks like coffee does when the cream is first poured in... The aroma contains dark roasted malts, deep caramel, and maybe some complex fruit characteristics. The flavor is roasted malt and dark chocolate (Dutch cocoa) with some slight charcoal hints. The finish has a roasty cocoa flavor. Overall the beer has an equaling bitterness that balances this beer nicely. The body is nearly full and the texture/mouthfeel is creamy and amazingly smooth (tiny carbonation bubbles). Specher Black Bavarian is super easy to drink with great roastiness and complexity in the flavor. It would be quite easy to drink the entire 4-pack of this in one sitting!
