| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 18, 2006 Very complex beer, not to be taken lightly. Aroma was roasted malts and bread. Mouthfeel was heavy, contributing to a long finish. Flavor is malty and bittersweet. What many raters are taking as chocolate and roasty coffee, I took a little differently. The flavor is somewhat reminiscent of the aroma of dew and wet earth, particularly if you’ve had the experience while camping. I know, that’s a strange comparison, but seriously. The finish is long, as I said, with a nice burnt toast character. Good beer, if a bit too complex to be a casual beverage. JoshuaB (428), Detroit, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2006 This stuff is black, just like Ving Rhames. Slight off white head. Nose is rather subdues compared to the flavor. Smells of roast, yeast, and maybe a bit of chocolate. Flavor is semisweet chocolate, and lots of oily roast. Tons of coffee in this one as well. Good mix of bitter and sweet. Yum yum. Man do I love me some dark German (or in this case, German style) lagers. iowaherkeye (1877), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 2, 2006 16oz bottle, no date. Pours a black with a medium brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, molasses, coffee. Aroma wasn’t too strong, then I decided to get smart and let it warm up. Flavor is very sweet and caramelly, some bitterness from the roasted malts. Even though this is my first Schwarzbier (rating), nothing was really surprising. Very good beer either way though. Creamy mouthfeel, light carbonation. Palidor19 (1798), Brandon, Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 20, 2006 16 oz. bottle. Pours out a deep, dark chocolate brown with a thin, quickly disappating tan head. The aroma is full of rich, roasted malt with chocolate, caramel and dark roast coffee. It tastes even better than it smells, a wonderful blend of toasted malt, burnt caramel, and milk chocolate with hints of coffee and anise. The palate is complex though just a tad thin, but with the taste you keep thinking it has to be thick like a stout or porter. Far and away the best schwarzbier I’ve ever had, and one of my favorite beers of all time - great to have as number 100 for me. I’m thrilled I can actually buy this in Florida now. tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 19, 2006 A black beer with a large tan head. The aroma is not super strong, but still very nice- malty chocolate, caramel, and sweet. The flavour is roasty, some sort of sour flavour, caramel, and also sweet (almost a fruity sweetness, but I cant quite pinpoint the fruits). Its smooth and approaching creamy (maybe just a little watery). I liked it!
