Commercial Description:
This intensely dark Kulmbacher style lager has a superb malt complexity with the distinctive flavors and aromas of coffee, caramel and chocolate. A renowned smoothness and a creamy, tan head make it an all-time brewery favorite.

Pours thick, velvety and foamy with a beautiful light brown head, mostly lasting. Its color is a very dark and opaque like a night in Bavaria’s Black Forest. Its aroma is of chocolate and carmel. Very creamy on the palate, with a malty taste, not bitter. Its finish is clean, crisp, slightly dry with a hint of coffee that is very pleasing. This robust beer can stand up to any meal and works well with brats, burgers, steaks or with peanuts or pretzels. Delightful.

16oz bottle courtesy of Kevin. Thanks again! Pours dark brown, almost black with a nice diminishing tan head. Nice aroma of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, and coffee. Texture is slightly watery with light carbonation. Flavor is dominated by mild roast coffee, with some peppery notes. Finish is dry, bitter, and slightly acidic. Overall, pretty darn good

16 oz. bottle from BevMo. Pours dark brown - almost black - with brick highlights when held to light and a large creamy beige head. Roasty malt aroma, bitter chocolate and molasses, bitter herbs, bit of sour milk and cream. Sweet roasty malt flavors as well, coffee, coacoa, brown rice, mild vegetabley herbs, lactose and hints of pepper in the finish. Medium body and creamy carbonation. Surprisingly good based on my experience with other Sprecher beers and quite enjoyable overall.

(bottle - 1 pt) Dark yet clear ruby pour with not much foam on top. Aroma is malty and kind of spicy with hints of port, coffee and caramel. The flavor is rather sweet and dry at the start. The middle has a nice coffee flavor mixed with a nice malt balance and a slightly dry and bitter finish. Lots of flavors all throughout.

Black, or at least dark brown, with a thin, off-white head. Spicy, creamy aroma, with a hint of coffee. Dusty and dry, with a strong coffee and pepper flavor. Maybe some rye, too. Surprisngly bitter, hoppy finish. Nice, very flavorful.

Bottle (500ml). via trade with Ughsmash. Poured deep ruby-brown with an average foamy-creamy-sticky lasting tan head. Mild, subtle, appealing roast, hop and lightly fruity aroma, dry and toasty. Taste is dark molasses-sweet, with coffee, chocolate, yeast, roast malt, prune, raisin and plum fruitiness, detectable hops too - nice balance of bitter and sweet. Mouthfeel is only lightly carbonated, a little watery, and mildly acidic - really, this is an excellent schwarzbier, the roastiness intensifies as it warms - I’d have it again in a shot - thanks for this one, Ughsmash!

Just a damn good brew. The head pours nice and frothy. You get the aromas, the full taste, and a nice, clean finish.
