A thin caramel colored head skimmed the top of this until completely melting away. Plenty of charcoal with hints of cocoa and light spices. Lightly hopped. An enjoyable beer. mporembski (1), Libertyville, Illinois, USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 16, 2005 Really love the BB. A favorite around our house, chocolately and rich, yet with a delicate nose and robust flavor.
A MUST for Stout lovers. CharlesDarwin (1848), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA

Wicking creamy malt aroma with caramel and a hint of Irish Whiskey. Slightly estery malt. A good run of those ubiquitous european hops. Fairly well balanced, but for me, overall unimpressive. Solid, german beer. RERATE. I had this again and enjoyed the coffe and roasted oak notes, but found the hop notes subdued and missing. There were some sour fringes and metallic bites that left me a little unbalanced. However, the lagery smoothness combined with the dark malt, make it a respectable Schwarz for sure. ehhdayton (1113), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2005 The aroma is of strong roasted malt and persistent. The color is a deep black with a creamy tan head. The flavor is a complex mixture of roasted and chocolate malt. Black Bavarian’s aftertaste is smooth and complex. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Oct 8, 2005 Light tasting schwarzbier with little head retention and a non-existent finish. Hops make a statement in the body but the specialty malts used are weak. This is definately a lager with a crisp aftertaste, but in the end falls short of expectations. The nose is toasty with roasted malt, no fruitiness nor alcohol, rich malts. The flavor is rich and malty, doughy/toasty with a touch of hops and a bit of vanilla flavors. Some chocolate and other mild roasts are present. Like a black pilsner, very rich and chewy but easy drinking with roasted anecdotes. Thanks Matt! mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA
