Jul 4, 2005 Black with a thin tan head. Aroma of cocoa and roasted malt. Thick, with an initial hops flavor followed by lots of roasted malt and coffee. Deep, smoky finish. Delicious.

Jun 9, 2005 Pours a black color with thin tan head that quickly fades away. Smells of faint chocolate and I couldn’t pick up much else aside from a bit of malt. Taste is awesome! First taste on the tongue is a bit of floral helps that soon fade and give way to the chocolate, roasted coffee, and caramel which do not make an appearance until the finish. Very smooth and delicious!!!

May 19, 2005 Yep, it’s black alright. It also has a huge air-filled head and a sweet malt aroma. This is a bit thin, but gives an OK roasty start, followed by a sharp predominate sweetness.

May 18, 2005 Updated: Jul 2, 2005Pour is black with a nice creamy head. Aroma and flavor is of sweet chocolate. glides smoothly over the tongue. Rich and creamy. I knew it was going to be good, but this was very good.

May 15, 2005 Bottle courtesy of qdog. Pours dark brown with no head. This smells like a Ricola (original) cough drop to me, which is a good thing. Flavor had some syruppy molasses and lots of dark roasted grains. Decent.

May 9, 2005 Pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. Aroma and taste is of chocolate malt. Mouthfeel is medium. Very nice black beer.

May 8, 2005 Nice, thick light brown head of very fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Head lasts for a while. Wonderful aroma with milk, chocolate, roasted grains and a bit of soy sauce. Color is a very dark port red/black. Roasted grains, plenty of malts, bitterswet chocolate and a bit of coffee round a very full and creamy flavor. Finish is slightly bitter with more coffee. An excellent schwarzbier.

May 1, 2005 Updated: Apr 10, 2008Aroma is full of cookie, toasted, nutty, roasted malts, milk chocolate, molasses and caramel. Light flowers and cinnamon. Appearance is a fully lasting large creamy light brown head with excellent lacing. The body is clear and a dark brown/black color. The flavor is moderately/heavy sweet with a light bitterness. The finish is long. Roasted milk chocolate, sweet caramel, and brown sugar note the flavor. The palate is full and mostly creamy, although, there’s a watery aspect to it too. The carbonation is lively. Very aromatic, very fulfilling.
