| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2009 16 oz. bottle courtesy of Neil. Dark cola-like pour with a creamy head (oddly reminiscent of their root beer). Sweet aroma of caramel and maple syrup. Flavor of roasted malt, toffee, and dark chocolate. If you asked me blindly to tell you what beer style this was I probably could not. Sort of a cross between a dopplebock and a porter. Not as sweet as a dopplebock and not as roasty as a porter. Overall a very good beer. coharahawk (87), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Pours black with a little red tint at the edges with a quick fading head. Aroma is roasted malts with some chocolate. There is also some random cardboard scent. Taste is chocolate up front with lots of roasty malts. Not too complex. Mouthfeel is pretty thin. Overall, not too bad, but I would question getting this again.. muffy (16), Longwood, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Dark almost black color. It pours cleanly with a low head that diminishes as quickly as it arrives.
Smooth and sweet with a heavy caramel odor and flavor. It looks light almost lacking in the creamy frothy appeal expected in beer with such a reputation. topherh (928), Kearney, Missouri, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 27, 2009 12 oz bottle from awiseman01. Pours a deep brown black with a bubbly light tan head. Aromas of malts mainly, light coffee.
Flavors have some nice chocolate tones that go back and forth to coffee. A creamy milk chocolate. Full malt backing adds to the complexity.
Mouth is nicely carbinated with a medium to full mouth. Medium length sticky finish. Mild bitterness. Great schwarzbier. Plenty of full flavor. robinvboyer (1429), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2009 black pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of espresso, brown sugar, and loads of roasted malt. Flavor is very roasty, lots of malt, some nice bitter cocoa, and an espresso finish. Really interesting beer, but i’m not sure if it’s that true to the style. none the less, its awesome! raginghophead (12), USA
