| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 5, 2005 Very dark and thick-looking, with a hint of red on the sides of the glass and a nice coffee-tinted head. Aroma is cloves, roasted malts, with a hint of chocolate. Taste is nicely roasty, coffee, chocolate, cloves, and spices. Was not as "full" as it looked, but I expected this. Nice hoppy coffee bitterness afterwards, with a touch of chocolate and licorice. Jedsbrew (465), Rhineland, Missouri, USA

Nice chocolatey coffee aroma with a spicy hop note. Robust dark malt roasty flavor with some chocolate and caramel and a well blended bitterness-smooth finish-one of the best dark lagers I’ve ever drank. richlikebeer (832), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 18, 2005 pour was amazingly dark, i have seen some stouts that weren’t this dark and full looking.aroma was malty and chocolate laden...the coffee and caramel didnt really come through. flavor was interesting..none of the flavors dominated, but they all seemingly took turns, coffee first, caramel lightly in the middle, chocolate late, with just a tad bitterness on the tail end. a very rich mouthfeel and full body, an almost velvety feel. this was an interesting beer at least, a very enjoyable one at best...i’m leaning far to the best side. Not quite full-on coffee, not quite bitter...not quite anything really. This really isn’t comparable to any other style of beer. It tastes like the word "toasted". There you go, toasted. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2005 The beer pours black, with a tan head. Great roasted coffee and malts, improved vastly by the fact that they don’t weigh down the palate. It’s a suprisingly drinkable, strongly roasted beer. A pleasure.
