Black cola in color with a active beige head. Smells like hot choclate and bourbon tasted like chocolate chip cookies. Bourbon warming sensation and finish. Spicier nose at room temperature. Is the 2006 smoother?

The head showed a half-moon shaped gathering of large, tan bubbles and a thin film. Tiny traces of sudsy lacing were noted. The aroma showed chocolate malts, oak, and nougat. Some alcohol was detectable in the nose, though it was not unpleasant or overbearing. The flavor was of chocolate, bourbon, and caramel, with just a bit of sour yeast in the finish. Medium body that went down very smooth. There is a slight funky, bourbon aftertaste that is accompanied by a little heat from the alcohol. Very, very nice brew. Smells of dark fruits, chocolate, and sweet molasses. The taste is very fruity for an imperial stout, although there was definite chocolate and dark malty characters everywhere. Nice thick body, oily, sticky mouthfeel, with a nice full flavored finish. The aftertaste has some good roast and chocolate flavors as well. The bourbon is there, but definitely not up in your face. Although it definitely shows up in the aftertaste and lingers for a bit. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 24, 2007 Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is of oak, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, bourbon, and a hint of alcohol. Flavor starts of a little sweet with the dark fruits and oak that give way to the roasted flavors of chocolate and coffee. Finishes with some bitterness and alcohol warming. Better then their regular imperial stout but still not my favorite. ehhdayton (1113), USA
