Aroma is malty, with nuts, brown sugar, raisins, and earthy peaty oaky notes. The flavor is rich, malty, with defined oaky, earthy, some vanilla, fig, raisins, and brown sugary notes. It does get a bit hot as it warms, and the carbonation is a bit low, and technically this doesn’t fit the scotch ale profile, but I still found this to be an enjoyable libation on a cold winter night. beerbuzzmontreal (2916), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Clear dark amber pour with a ring of offwhite lace. Unpleasant aroma and flavor of bourbon, butterscotch and corn syrup. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texture and low carbonation. Rastacouere (5561), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 1/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Flat, oxidized and buttery, heavily bourbon influenced scotch ale. Almost 20$
I like:
Genuine caramelized notes. Vanilla notes.
I dislike:
Cheap bourbon smell – exuberant. Butterscotch abundance. Corn oil. Greasiness. Fading head. Growing alcohol blast. Absent carbonation. Lifeless pour. Oxidation. No smoke.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2008 1 litre bottle with a flip-top. Pours a cloudy brown with a very thin, sloppy, soapy head that completely disappeared before the first sip. Pleasant aroma of malt, bourbon and oak. The flavor is very nice with malt up front with just a bit of peat followed by strong bourbon and oak along with some notes of vanilla as well. The finish is kind of flat and dull, which I believe is due to the fact that this beer is undercarbonated, as evidenced by the nearly lifeless pour. Overall, there were parts of this beer I enjoyed and others that were disappointing. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Courtesy of Gillard (the man, myth, legend, who else sits for weeks and weeks with Black Hole as they’re only rating. Gillard rocks!!). Also Degarth has one of these from Santa so I need to see what that’s all about. Pours a clear amber-ish brown with weak off white head. The aroma is big with an inviting oakiness and mild bourbon mixed with roasted malts, earthiness and toffee. The lack of carbonation gives it a soft start to the flavor with bourbon and mild wood. Then tasty caramel, toasty toffee, toasted wheat bread and a vein of earthiness move the experience toward the finish. The taste lingers for a long while and shows mild oxidation. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Bottle; poured a dark auburn color; light brown head. Aroma was of butterscotch, caramel, and oak. Flavor was a little bit one dimensional. Sweet caramel and bourbon were just too dominating. Lacked any roasted or smoky presence. Flavor was sweet. Alcohol was well hidden. Overall, it was good, but lacked some of things that you would look for in the style.
