Aroma is bourbon up front with some peat and smoked malts backing it up. Flavor is close to that with the alcohol masked behind all of those big flavors. A bit on the sticky side but overall a nice take on the style. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Taste of caramel, light bourbon, toffee, frosting, sugar and a touch of oak. I was expecting a lot more bourbon flavor but it was still good. CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2007 1L bottle sampled on 7/2/06: Pours a deep copper orange with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of sweet peaty caramel malt and nice oaky bourbon complexity. Starts with a somewhat lively body with good caramel maltiness quickly turning into an oakier, mildly bourbon, dry well-balanced finish. An enjoyable, complex, and drinkable brew. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 22, 2007 Mild aroma, some spice, vanilla and bourbon. Flavor is HUGE on the bourbon, vanilla, spices, toffee. But most flavors were masked by the bourbon. Good, but a little overpowering. brewblackhole (1384), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 22, 2007 Malt slurry, carmel, smoke or wood, and hints of bourbon and port wine. The bourbon became more distinct as it warmed. The flavor was was your standard scottish carmel toffee, little or no hop all with the hints of bourbon, which became more distinct as it warmed, tastey, pleasant, but not the big ass concoction you would expect from a bottle so grandly packaged and named beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 17, 2007 4 oz sample at HDG. This was kind of dissappointing. Kind of muddled together and messy with nothing really going on- at least nothing that was pleasant. The bourbon takes over in the aroma and mouthfeel, but it is just plain hot and alcoholic, despite the original beer being 9.5%. I thought it would be thicker. Fruity, estery, medicinal, light harsh smoke, cheap burning bourbon, woody, oaky, dry as hell and has a bad weak finish. I struggled to finish the 4 oz. egajdzis (3631), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 15, 2007 Poured an amber color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of peat, caramel, and nuts, somewhat boring. Taste of vanilla, caramel malts, some roast, and more peat. Was very sweet, low bourbon presence. Ho hum...
