Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

22oz Bottle with wax seal: Pours deep brown/ruby in color with a good amount of clarity in the light and a fading tan head. Aroma has lots of German malts, metallic chocolate, brown sugar and raisins. Flavor has a nice malt character, without being syrupy or sweet, rather nice roasty and warming. Has a metallic hint in the chocolatey malts with notes of dark maple, oak, tobacco, burnt figs/plums and later peppery alcohol hint in the long roasty/spicy finish. This is a solid Doppelbock that is highly drinkable and not sticky or sweet like many other attempts of the style.

This brown to black beer with a slight head appeared to be a majestic treasure in my 50cl glass. The first taste of the chocolate malts and the sweet caramel made a great after dinner impression on me with elements of hops in the background.

Smells like a chocolate bar. Deep auburn color. minor layer of foam. Notes of red wine and oak. Carbonation is persistent. Closes with a subtle hopiness.
