Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Recevied 22 oz waxed top bottle. Pours a very dark molasses brown with a small tan head. Good lacing. The head lasted a few minutes at best. Aroma has some malt bitterness immediately. Flavor is bitter malt with hints of molasses and carmel. Finish is very sweet. Some dark fruit and caramel.

Pours dark brown with a thin ring of white bubbles. Smells of cherries and chocolate. Tastes of chocolate with mellow spicy touches. Average for the style.

22oz wax top, labeled @ 8% ABV. Pours a clear ruby with a one finger beige head. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, toasted malts, and raisins. Flavor is toasted malts, some toffee, raisins, and alcohol--not really any burn though. Semidry finish. Low sharp carbonation and a medium body. Still working on my doppel kick and this one definitely isn’t the worst.

Bottle, again...thanks sliffy! Dark brown pour with an off white head. Aromas of candied fruit and sweet malts. Flavor held some chocolate, fruits, and some caramel malt. Medium body, sweet with a sweet smokey finish.

This is another one of Sprecher’s Brewmaster’s series that have shown up around here lately. It pours a beautiful reddish brown color with a one finger off white, tightly bubbled head, that quickly disappears. The flavor is sweet and malty and this brew is very drinkable.

Aroma is chocolate and caramel. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, and intensely malty. Chocolate more evident as it warms. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy.

Bottled. Poured a clear garnet with a very nice tall cap of creamy beige head. Nose picked up rich dark fruit and toasted caramel sugars... some leafy hoppage too.. definite alcohol undercurrent. Flavor was also carried by toasty caramel and dark fruits.. warmer toward the back with earth, chocolate, and herbal notes. Rather chewy on the palate with a mild bitterness... warm finish of rummy caramel. Very good stuff.

Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Dark brown beer, with a ruby tint. Thick light brown tinted head. Aroma is very sweet and malty. Light toast and toasted. Some chewy brown sugar, light toffee. Munich malt and some soft chewiness. There is a slightly astringent graininess that isn’t really appropriate in here. Herbal bitterness and even a touch of diacetyl. Okay.
