Very malty with lots of dark rye bread, dark fruit, and a little yeasty funk. Deep dark red with a light brown fizzy head. Very earthy, almost rooty, bittersweet, and lightly dry. Some roast and sticky malt. Dark fruit and caramel with a terminal dose of red berries. Touch of nuttiness in the medium-full body; silken mouthfeel. Dry sticky caramel aftertaste with roast and a little smoke wafting around the back palate. They’re getting a great complexity of malt here. Absolutely superb standalone ... this could be my everyday Doppel. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2007 Bought in a 22 ounce bomber. Wax sealing, a nice touch. Aroma is caramel, along with some raisin/fig, as well as cherry. Very sweet smelling beer and very nice. Body color is dark red and brown with a thin ring of head around my Leffe glass. Smooth roasty malty taste. Not a lot of hops here, but that’s not really expected in the style. I can tell I am drinking this at the right temperature and that is key. Alcohol is barely noticable. A nice doppelbock indeed. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Thin, white head around the sides of the glass...dark, reddish-brown, coloa-looking colored body...Very strong malty aroma, sweet, with a bit of buttery caramel. The flavor is pretty good too - buttery and rich, and very malty. A pleasant roastiness prevails, which a hefty amount of molasses. Good. notalush (2661), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Wax-topped bomber, labeled brewmasters reserve, 8% abv - very dark ruby pour, with thick off-white lace - pretty rich, caramel, cherry, cinnamon aroma - fairly high carbonation, but the mouthfeel is relatively creamy in spite of this - not as sweet as a lot of doppels, which is a nice change - the moderate dryness compliments a cocoa flavor - the caramel malt comes through quite a bit, along with a hint of wintery spices, and a touch of warming alcohol - finishes almost peppery, with some spicy hops to balance out the lingering sweetness and cinnamon flavor - a fairly well-balanced brew, from a fairly underrated brewery.
