Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

(Bottle 47 cl) Pours a beautiful, clear reddish brown with a creamy, off-white head. Sweetish, roasted malt aroma. Medium body with lots of sweet, roasted malts and quite some alcohol. Lovely. 011206

A deep red beer with a thin rim of brown head. The aroma is of over ripe fruits and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel, leading to a dry bitter and roasted end. More like a stout than a Doppelbock.

Bottled - courtesy of DavidP. Dark amber coloured. Light brown dense head. Sweet and meaty aroma. Notes of spices and fruits. Flavour is sugary and sweet. Fruits, herbs and cocoa notes. Medium bodied with light watery tendencies. Alcoholwarming end, with some fruitsweet notes.

Not that much in the aroma, and has more chocolate taste to it than the porter. Has a nice amount of hops in the fiish, and a little sweet there too. Not that heavy. Quite good.

Poured a brown with tan head and okay lacing. Aroma was fruity and something, i guess i would agree with eagle bublegum. Flavor was of caramel chocolate hits of spices as it warmed. Aftertaste was a little bitter.

Dark amber color with tan head. Roasty malt aroma with some fruit and a hint of alcohol. Rich roasted malt flavors that aren’t too sweet. It is a well balanced mix of flavors. There are caramel malts, chocolate malts, mild toffee, molasses and dark fruit notes. All the flavors are even with no out of place bright components. At the end there is some alcohol warmth. Very enjoyable dopple bock.
