Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Poured a brown with tan head and okay lacing. Aroma was fruity and something, i guess i would agree with eagle bublegum. Flavor was of caramel chocolate hits of spices as it warmed. Aftertaste was a little bitter.

Dark amber color with tan head. Roasty malt aroma with some fruit and a hint of alcohol. Rich roasted malt flavors that aren’t too sweet. It is a well balanced mix of flavors. There are caramel malts, chocolate malts, mild toffee, molasses and dark fruit notes. All the flavors are even with no out of place bright components. At the end there is some alcohol warmth. Very enjoyable dopple bock.

Poured a sure brown color, some clarity to it, nice tan head, good retention. Lacing was ok. The aroma was fruity, doughy, some bubblegum, some vinous notes. The flavor was dark fruits (raisins) / vinous, caramel, chocolate, some brown sugar, somewhat spiced. Could have used a few more hops. The mouthfeel was thinner than anticipated (based on color and the style), but it wasn’t bad, maybe a tad acidic.

Decent sized light tan head of fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Sweet malty aroma with some caramel, raisins and dark munich malts. Color is a very dark port brown. Malty and sweet. Thick and chewy. Just the way a good dopple should be. Light alcohol presence. Little lingering roastyness. Again raisins but the sweetness is short lived. Actually sort of dry and pasty at the finish. Lighting alcohol warming. A decent dopplebock.

Brownish red with a moderate head, decent lacing. Aroma is molasses, caramel, and dark fruits. Flavor is quite sweet with an awkward mouthfeel. Maybe it’s an old bottle? Thank god for low carbonation and hops, it helped give it a sweet finish I was expecting. Overall good with minor flaws.

[bottle] Pours a dark ruby/brown color. Dense, tan head quickly dissolves. Aroma of molasses, bread and alcohol. Nice caramel, coffee and chocolate flavors. Malty and sweet, but not too sweet. Full bodied. Finishes with a touch of bitterness and alcohol warmth.

Thanks to MIBRomeo for this one. Pours deep brownish, toward the black end, with minimal tan head. Aroma of roasty malt, chocoff, almond, cinnamon. Tastes roasty malty, chocoffy, with some figgy fruit, brown sugar, and almond notes. Pretty good balance.

The aroma has toasted malt, caramel, and dark fruit. The aroma is nice but a little weak. The appearance is dark red-brown with a small head. The flavor is nice and sweet without being cloying. It has moderate bitterness and plenty of alcohol. The palate is ok but not thick enough. The aftertaste is warm and toasty. This one is fairly likable.
