I’m not a huge fan of doppels, so the absence of a really sweet malt taste is nice, although I should try some more of those intense doppels. My first Sprecher. Good. Dark brown color, pours with a good size head that quickly dissapates. Almost translucent. Mix of carmel(mostly), some prune type flavors and minute amounts of burnt flavors. Sweet like it should be. Wet finish. Thanks CaptainCougar. beerbuzzmontreal (2916), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Flavor of malt, dark fruits, alcohol and roasted malt with a mild bitter finish. Light to medium body, creamy texture. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Fairly vinous raisin/plum aroma with marzipan-like nuttiness. Clear, dark brown, almost black body has ruby tones and a small-bubbled, off-white head that recedes to ring w ith some light lacing. Sweet malts up front give way immediately to dark fruits (raisin, plum, prune) which make way further along for a fair roastiness. Medium body with fiar carbonation though quite simple in the mouth. Bottle enjoyed with beerbuzzmontreal, lubiere, MartinT and Rastacouere. Rastacouere (5560), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Cloudy medium brown boasts a lasting off-white head. Excitingly vinous aroma full on the currants and blackberries jam flavors. Sweet Iced tea like caramelic malt comprises a generous roasted raisin bread overtone. Nutty with more roasted candies and pumpernickel complexities all while deploying a savant fruit knowledge. Fitting lagerish body with moderate carbonation may not carry it to excellence, but doesn’t affect negatively either. Remarkable take on the style mostly due to its unique deep roastiness. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 3, 2005 The Lure: A somber terracotta houses dry earthiness, rummy sweetness and cherry-like fruitiness.
The Festivities: A burnt sweetness of buttery caramel lathers the competent roasted malt bitterness. Charred fruit decorate the maltiness and are promoted by the prickly small bubbles.
Transcendence: Thoughtful silence floats over the well-fed chalice. BeerAteHer (384), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Somewhat dull, rust color. Aroma is intensely malty and pleasantly fresh though little else shows through here. Has great body for a doppelbock: little head or lacing, more along the lines of a "liquid bread", with moderate carbonation and thick body. Flavor shows a bit more complexity than the aroma, with some nice butterscotch and nutty undertones to complement the malts. Alcohol shows through quite a bit, but for this style it’s not really so much of a detriment. erod61 (31), Bangor WI, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2004 Dark brown or brown-orange held to the light. Malty nose. Mouthfeel is excellent for the style kind of thick and chewy the way i like it. Flavor is very sweet. Choclatey. There is a ton of eTOH here but it is lost in the sweet ness.
