| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2004 2004 bottle. Pours a clear deep orange-blood red tinged brown. Small disipating light tan head. Aroma of malt, bread, brown sugar, light yeast notes. Flavor is sweet and malty, with the malt body very big and with enough to really hang on to through the whole beer. It just stays creamy, smooth and flavorful, with plenty of chocolate, light yeast, some touches of butterscotch and light roast notes as well. Thick, yet drinkable. Perhaps a bit too sweet by the end of the bottle. But I applaud the relatively low use of hops here. Very low carbonation is a major plus. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2004 Very dark brown almost black body. Has a tint of red at the edges when held to the light. A thin tan head stays around for the whole glass. Aroma is the expected maltiness with some nuts. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. There are hints of coffee, toffee and some sugary sweetness in the aftertaste. A fairly nice dopplebock. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Updated: Dec 2, 20052005 bottle, consumer December 2005 Still pretty damn delicious and sweet, but you can taste some alcohol this time around. I see no need to adjust any rating points outside of bumping aroma up by one. Someday I’ll give this one more attention, now that my rating skills are more fine-tuned from my earlier rating days (as you’ll be able to note below.)
Tap at Sprecher, December 2004. Yes! With its beer line, it seems that Sprecher either hits it right on the mark or is way off. Their dopple bock is right on the money. Smells of yeast, malt and dark chocolate. In the mouth, it’s full-bodied and rich, and softly sweetened with caramel. Great tiny-bite in the aftertaste. This is good. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Pours a very dark brown/black, small white head. Aroma of roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt, and sweet fruit. Palate is nice and full. A great brew. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 23, 2004 Nice brown body with a small head and decent lacing. There is a mild aroma made up of the smell of darker fruits. Also some spice almost like pumpkin pie and a hint of alcohol. The flavor is sharp and mildly roasted. There are some carmel malts present and some hops, but nothing too over the top. It has a nice smooth finish. 5000 (2600), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 11, 2004 Bottle pours dark brown with hues of plum, small foamy off-white head, slick lacing with virtually no carbonation. Chocolate malts, plums, and raisins on the nose. Very slight semi-sweet dark chocolate up front, but that gives way to a heavy dark pitted fruit flavor soon thereafter. Mild bitterness envelopes the tongue as the finish nears. Great body, wonderful mouthfeel. A bit more maltiness emerges as it has a chance to sink in. Lingering dark pitted fruit. Very nice this is! Thanks goes out to atpayne for the trade!

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 18, 2004 Not a lot of head, but a slight tan layer over a nearly opaque black beer. Big flavor of molasses, toffee, and caramel. Sweet, but light on the palate, very drinkable as doples go. Nice. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2004 Dark, ruby red to dark brown pour with a generous off-white head. Fragrant aroma of fruitcake, raisins and dates. Thick chewy mouthfeel. Flavor has elements of canned, moist baked brown bread, dates, prunes and maple sugar. A most delectable sinful Dopplebock, very tasty - would be great for the winter.
