Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

16oz bottle. Deep, dark, red brown color with no real head. Sweet malty aroma, touch of alcohol in it. Rich, sweet, and creamy, with only an inkling of hops in the initial mouthfeel. Sweet chocolate malt aftertaste. Develops some decent Bocky yeast tastes as it warms. Nothing exceptional, but does have redeemable qualities.

Bottle courtesy of kiefdog. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a small tan head. Aroma of sweet malt and caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium full mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Good

Clear caramel brown color, no head. General sweet nose, slight dark fruits. Clean taste, a bit on the sweeter side even for a dopplebock, malts not real spicy. Clean finish. Just ok.

16oz bottle from Mr. Dunderbaks (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear dark brown cola color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with fairly strong phenol notes, some vanilla, caramel, toffee. Flavor is also sweet and malty with toffee, caramel, sugar and dark fruit notes. Generally medium body with a sweet, malty finish.

courtesy of keifdog. Pours ruby/amber and tan head. aroma and taste have the signature doppelbock. Lots of malts with caramel notes, sweet almost sugary. Light hints of dark fruits. Good stuff, cant go wrong with Sprecher.

12 oz. Translucent chestnut with a tight quarter inch of cream that leaves some soapy frost behind. Mild aroma of cocoa, coffee and roasted walnut. Flavors are similar but stronger, with some lightly tart berry and molasses for contrast to the robust roast flavors. Medium-heavy body is smooth but tingly, and finishes dry with roastiness and light alcohol.

Shared by a local. Poured a deep brown color with a moderate beige head that faded to a ring. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some apple and red grape, and a bit of yeast. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some soft fruity undertones (red grape) leading into a nice caramel maltiness with a light apple flavor and a light yeastiness on the finish. Moderate carbonation, smooth on the palate. A bit basic, but not bad.

Very dark burgundy color, with a collar of light tan foam. Wort-like nose, with some nice malt elements of caramel and raisins, butterscotch and honey. Flavor is tremendously lacking and poorly flavored, doesn’t have the intensity I would like. Not extracted well.
