Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, some toastiness and toffee, slightly woody. Nice sweetness, some breadiness comes though in the finish. Whoohooo, you left me a good one Moli!!

Dark brown, light tan creamy head. Sweet brown sugar and cherry aromas ride on soft smoked toffee cream-like tones. Sweet caramel bread and dark fruit flavors dominate from start to finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, malty sweet finish. Thanks for sharing, argo0!

Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toffee, buttersotch. Taste, way too much malt, duh, has a bitter flavor from something I couldn’t identify, but I didn’t feel it was the hops. Almost like the malts went south. I had to choke this one down, and chase it with a glass of Sprecher root beer... Now that would be a better combination... :)

Sweet burnt maple and oily wood in the nose, with some light amaretto and almond notes and a light bit of ash. Sweet and sticky plums and nuts greet the tongue, along with a delayed ashy wood flavor, some almonds, some grains, and it finishes a little bit boring and plain overall, with a chalky aftertaste. Good, but not great.

22oz bottle, courtesy of argo0. Thanks, Aaron! Pours a dark, reddish-brown tea color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of chewy dried caramel and dried fruits in the aroma; pleasant, clean dried caramel character throughout. Medium-to-full, chewy mouthfeel: lots of dried caramel and dark fruits; another solid, tasty lager from Sprecher, following the Black Bavarian. Bready, sweet caramel. Medium finish, showing dried caramel and breadiness.

Courtesy of argo0. Clear brown body with a tiny beige head. The nose is cherry/berry, toffee and raisins. The flavor is moderately sweet with plums, cherry, caramel, figs and toffee. Medium/full body is a bit thin with moderate carbonation.
