Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Courtesy of argo0. Clear brown body with a tiny beige head. The nose is cherry/berry, toffee and raisins. The flavor is moderately sweet with plums, cherry, caramel, figs and toffee. Medium/full body is a bit thin with moderate carbonation.

16 oz bottle from UncleJedi - thank you! Lightly hazy, a dark orange tinted brown with a thin tan head. Mildly sweet nose, rich caramel, roasty malt, bready and a bit boozy. Flavor matches the nose, somewhat sweet, the alcohol is apparent but does not detract from the beer. Lovely!

Bottle. Dark brown/amber color with small lacing head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel candy, toffee, and grape juice. The taste was the same with nice maltiness and medium caramel sweetness.

On Tap Pours out a Dark, dense brown with a good off-white head leaving great lacing. Great malty aromas with hints of caramel. Big but balanced mouthfeel with a hint of sourness of dark fruits. As it warms, it gives off even more spiciness. One of the finest Dopple bocks I’ve tasted.

Dark brown beer that shines bright red against the kight. Smells of caramel, apple, chocolate, ripe fruit, tastes of chocolate, a touch tart and somewhat winey, plums, the alcohol shows a bit but does not detract from overall enjoyment much, very nicely done. The taste lingers, its hard to pin down the flavors but they are intriguing. Will seek out again.

Pours black, but with some ability to see through...very thin tan head. Aroma is odd...some malt, some roasted nuts, and something just out-of-place in there...almost a bad bottle smell to it. Flavor is mostly malt...some roasted character, and a bit of molasses in there as well. Sadly, that odd aroma is also there in the flavor...somewhat ’tinny’. Sensing a little bit of fruit in there as well. Very easy to drink. Thin body with a malty, metallic aftertaste. Somewhat disappointed, mostly due to the flavors that were just not in tune with a doppelbock (let alone any beer), though the malts worked very well together.

1-liter flip-cap bottle. Pours a deep, lively amber-brown witha nice, light beige head. Aroma is sublte molasses and caramel. Hints of smoky molasses, licorice, chocolate malt, and a tinge of cherry all greet the taste buds. What’s holding this brew back is a coppery finish that, while not overpowering, is too noticeable to ignore. Average mouthfeel with a touch of tingle to it. Great aroma and flavor balance but I can’t get past the coppery finish.
