Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Bottle. [Thank you, yespr, shared @ Plan B] Large beige creamy like head that really lasted. Good display of film like lacework. Somewhat clear and mahogany colored. Reasonably complex aroma of bread, caramel, fruit, roasted mal, and even a hint of chocolate and wood. Medium to full bodied with a filling texture and a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor. Sweet wood like finish. Quite nice one Jesper! Re-Rate: #22 Bottle [Sk8viking great American blind tasting] Small off-white fizzy head that mostly diminished. Light cloudy mahogany color. Spare display of lacework. Aroma of vanilla, wood, raisins. Over the palate came hint of metallic, dried fruit and almost bourbon notes. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet and bitter flavor. Bitter finish. 7 / 3 / 7 / 3 / 15 = 3.5

Pours a reddish-brown with a thin underwhelming film head. Aroma is heavy rye bread and a light caramel feel between a clear vinious note. Mouthfeel is very nice, and rather oily. Flavour is sweet, lots of rye bread, a touch of metallic off-flavours and some oak. Seriously not that impressive, a bit too one-sided and sweet.

22 oz. bottle. Pretty dark red pour with a brown off-white head. Bisquit aroma with some dark fruit. Taste was a surprisingly sweet malt flavor--mainly cherry and prune with a slight burnt flavor. Finish is bittersweet malts. Sprecher is the Wisconsin version of Schells--overrated. Don’t let the packaging with the Malker’s Mark wax top fool you. This is pretty mediocre.

After sipping on this awhile, it really did get better. Still, my overall thoughts on this beer was it was really one-dimensional from start to stop. A predominantly malty sweet aroma, a bit of oxidation...reminded me in many ways of an English barleywine...but not nearly as refined or complex, just mostly sweet. Appearance was beautiful, a deep chocolately brown color, one finger creamy head with nice deep red highligts around the edges. Flavor is just a two-note song, with sweetness and alcohol playing loud and proud. Still, it seemed to work in a weird way. Not that I’d ever buy cases of it, but the bottle I had was enough. Nice beer on a cool evening.

Slightly hazy, dark, raison colored body. When held to the light, this beer glows intensely, blood red in color. A small, frothy, light khaki head settles quickly to a wispy film. Minimal lacing noted. The aroma shows raisins, dried figs, and hints of cherries, along with dark caramel, dry cocoa, and a hint of toasted pecans. The flavor follows suit, caramel, cocoa, and dark fruits showing strongest. A faint nuttiness comes through as well. Medium body. Smooth, with a lively mouthfeel. Pretty solid Doppelbock.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a thin, bubbly beige head. Smell: Aroma of dark fruits and cherries stewed with a hefty dose of sugar. Plenty of sweet-smelling dark maltiness. Taste: Rich dark malt flavor with notes of toffee and molasses and a ton of sweetness. Nice fruitiness with the taste of prunes and cherries. Lightly smokey. Sweet, spiced candy-like finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation. Drinkability: Remarkably tasty. So good, the police got involved.

Pours out darkest red with a small but lasting white head. Toffee, raisin aroma. Wheat, raisin, chocolate malt in the taste. Chewy chocolate aftertaste. Very tasty, goes well with postseason baseball.
