Commercial Description:
This strong, dark lager was originally brewed as a liquid bread to sustain Bavarian monks while fasting. Its complex malt character comes from brewing with many varieties of dark roasted caramel malt and long periods of cold storage.

Poured a clear dark brown color with a thin off-white head. The fruity aroma had notes of dark fruits and caramel. Somewhat sweet. The flavor was sweet, fruity, and malty with a medium body.

22 oz bottle: Purchased at holiday wine cellar. This filled my glass as a deep dark brown with almost no creation of head but a short lived layer of fizz. The nose is a full and busty aroma of nuts, caramel malt and lightly toasted malt. Very sweet in the flavor department and might actually give me a toothache because of how sweet it is. Also, it has a nutty and malty flavor with note of caramel. A real refined palate with just the right amount of fizz to make this drink sustainable.

22oz bottle. Pours a dark, cloudy ruby-red/brown with a thin but tannish head. Aroma is sweet and rich with smells of roasted malt, caramel, honey, and coffee. Taste is medium-bodied and flat with an initial flavor of coffee and malt giving way to a lingering but gentle sweet finish. A very smooth and rich dopplebock perfect for cold days.

Pours a cloudy brown with a wispy head, yet energetically effervescent. Deep aromas of anise, burnt sugar, and coffee, this dopple literally kills the palate. Best utilized as a digestif, serve along side of cobblers or pies; would pair well with aged goudas or smoked cheeses.

Bottle... Clear, dark crimson lager with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Never ending retention. The aroma is malty and vinous with strokes of chocolate, sorghum and plenty of dark, dried fruit. The hearty, port-like flavor is well-balance by medium sweetness and medium, minerally bitterness. A little boozy with a whisper of sorghum molasses. Full-bodied and creamy with modest carbonation. Lengthy, dark fruit, moderately bitter finish.

Very dark brown/ruby. Small, creamy, tan head. Aroma of cola, dark fruits, cocoa, richly sweet malt. Similar flavor with some dark bready malt and some caramel in there, also. Cocoa aftertaste. Full/medium body, smooth, rich. Solid doppelbock.
