Commercial Description:
Celebrating 20 years of remarkably good taste! Characterized by a medium-body & dry well-balanced finish, this deep brown porter brewed with Dutch cocoa and pure raspberry extract evokes chocolate, caramel and fresh tart raspberries. Keeping our specialty product cool, still & dark pays rewards in flavor changes over the next year or more.

I fell for this as my special beer for Christmas dinner, and though I was tempted by their $15 large bottles such as the Imperial Stout, I think reason will get the better part of me. This $11 special is quite dark on the porter spectrum and pours promisingly with a dark head, but even as it warms it becomes difficult to tease out an abundance of flavor. The ingredients are secondary--cocoa and raspberry extract--and they taste like it, esp. the cocoa. The body is moderately rich, with some unbearable lightness in the finish, as the flavor evaporates quickly as well. Merry Christmas 2006, but next year I’ll return to my tradition of buying a Cantillon or Fantome instead.

Dark color. Smell of malt, hops, chocolate, raspberries, strawberries and caramel. Taste of chocolate raspberry cake, malt, hops, caramel, syrup and a minor sour. Bitter at the end. NOTE!!! YOU MUST HAVE IT ON TAP AT THE BREWERY. ITS A LOT BETTER THAN THE BOTTLE! MORE FLAVOR!

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy fine to large sized bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-opaque except around the edges dark ruby red brown colored body. The mild aroma was malty and raspberry. smooth flat . The funky odd tasting flavor contained notes of malt and raspberry. Very stange combination os a porter with raspberry! What were they thinking! Ugh! Was so hard to get passed that oddness. Not one that I would buy again.

A nice chocolate raspberry aroma. Very sweet bittersweet chocolate with some raspberry and a little metal. Really not a porter, nor tasty. Much too like a confectionary candy piece.

Aroma of fruit, chocolate, coffee and a souriness also, black, with a ruby edge, small tan head. Tastes of berries with cocoa and mild coffee. Sour, sweet. Interesting. Thanks GregClow.

Roasted grains. Brown light coloured foam and a little sour taste maybe due to some Fruits and Cocoa.

Brown, almost black with only the faintest hint of red at the edges and a nicely lacing, dark brown head. Definite raspberry and chocolate aroma with a spiciness not unlike nutmeg. Flavor and aroma are one though that does not do much for me subjectively. The raspberry is a little too heavy but the beer does dry out towards the finish, just not enough to erase the clinging, chocolate covered raspberry that was still on my palate the next morning. I should have brushed my teeth before going to bed. A good beer but not for me.

500 ml bottle, via Styles. Pours a clear dark brown colored body under a one finger fizzy brown head. Aroma is quite grainy with some chocolate malt and roast notes. Some caramel in the mix as well. The flavor is a little harsh, more caramel and roast than anything with an astringent lightly sour raspberry finish. Mouthfeel is rather thin with an intense fizzy carbonation level that is really distracting. Overall, this was not a good showing from Sprecher. They ought to be ashamed to call this their tenth anniversary beer, I would hope that they could come up with something better than this after ten years.
