Flavor per aroma, Brings back good memories of birthday cake - delicious. BisGute agrees. Light, tart palate. Very underrated. Also miscategorized - more of a fruit beer than a porter, porter expectations of this beer would let you down. A delicious dessert treat with a nice natural raspberry and chocolate flavor. This beer’s rating is a crime! Nice dark looks with moderate beige head that leaves rocky lacing. blankboy (3207), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a murky dark ruby-brown with a spare diminishing creamy tan head. Aroma: man, that’s strange, what a weird aroma! There’s sweet malt with lots of raspberries (and other fruit) and faint chocolate, some mild burnt elements -- it sounds pretty normal in writing but the aroma caught me off guard when I smelled it. Flavour’s similar: sweet, malty and fruity, a little tart and a hint of chocolate. Light to medium bodied. Definitely an interesting Porter, and it’s decent enough, but it didn’t do that much for me. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Very dark brown, black, dark brown head. Sweet dark fruit, burnt aroma. Baltic porter sweetness as well. Sweet porter taste but also tons of berry - interesting - wasn’t expecting that! Thin body. A solid porter with grape juice! GregClow (2496), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Dark, murky brown with a wispy tan head. Sweet malt and berries in the aroma, with dry cocoa as an end note. Body is thinnish, but OK. Flavour is quite dry, with notes of tart/sour berries and cocoa powder. An interesting experiment that ended up being better than I expected. hopscotch (5487), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 29, 2006 Bottle... Hard, black pour creates a small, fizzy, lightly tanned head. Chocolatey, fruity nose. Well-balanced flavor. Lots of cocoa and raspberries. Tangy, bordering on pungent... Flemish porter? Medium-bodied with a tannic mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lengthy, tart, dry finish. Maybe a little brett in there. Thanks go out to WBC for the bottle! jerc (3936), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2006 Following Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Bottle. Block body with a creamy tan head that fades. Very fruity aroma, blackberry, light raspberry, and hints of concord grapes. Flavour is likewise quite fruity with a tart/sour tang to it that is unexpected but interesting. Doesn’t blend that well at times but is tasty nonetheless. Average palate is thin for a porter but seems to suit the beer well. 7+/3+/7+/3/15 Brigadier (1240), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

This was a followup to the barley wine. A little unusual, but since they
had more than enough, I wanted to go for the more rare beer first. I’m glad
I did because this was decent but a slight letdown. A nice reality check
that Sprecher on the whole puts out solid but not spectacular brews.
Aroma / Appearance - The thin tan head soon faded weakly into a body
that was the color of stained black leather. Just a hint of light was able
to escape when I held it up to the sun. The aroma was no suprise based on the
description. Raspberries, cocoa, malt and a very restrained coffee scent
were the bulk of what I was able to detect. While not exceptionally complex,
it was enough to interest me in trying the sample.
Flavor / Palate - Raspberries, bittersweet baker’s chocolate and a
hint of black coffee were the first things to come to mind upon sipping my
glass. Next came caramel and molasses, followed by more raspberries. On
the whole it was a little sweet for what I think of in a porter but still
very solid. I don’t know that I would spring for the large bottles of this,
but perhaps the 16-ounce bottles are worth trying.
