| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2006 Pours a deep, dark, ruby/brown with a tan head that laces and lasts as a thick film. Fruity currant and blackberry under milk chocolate aroma... like "the pink one" in a box of Fannie May buttercream chocolates. Alcohol appears late. It’s hard to get over metallic notes in the flavor, but when I do it’s easy to find bitter chocolate and raspberries with coffee in the finish. Fruitiness is very forward throughout and the aftertaste is sour but tasty.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 28, 2006 Poured dark brown to black. There wasn’t much of an aroma to this one. Very slight raspberry is all. I did like the flavor, which added some chocolate as well as just the right amount of raspberry. This was pretty good. murrayswine (101), Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 27, 2006 This beer is false frickin advertising. When you pour it, it pours on of the most attractive mocha/mahogany colos, it looks incredible. The head is weak, though, reduced to lace in seconds like a bad Heineken. The smell is tart and sharp with high tannen rasberry, and bitter cooking chocolate.
On taste, this beer is at war. Either it was almost a damn good porter that got polluted with a lambic, or vice versa, either way, it’s too busy of a taste, with too much sours to enjoy. It’s not bad for lambic or stron fruit ale lovers, but it sure isnt a porter.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2006 (16 oz bottle: Obtained 17-Jun-05 in trade with footbalm, thanks Eric!) Deep brown, nearly black in color, opaque except at the very edges, capped by a tall, bubbly head with a creamy top. As it slowly recedes, it leaves draping rings of lace on the glass, so this is a visually attractive beer. The aroma takes me by surprise at first, it’s kind of tart and fruity, maybe even a bit sour, certainly not what I’m expecting from a porter so I take my first sip. What the hell? This tastes like chocolate raspberry cake! Figuring something had to be wrong with this well-aged bottle, I had to check the beer’s description on the label and sure enough, that was the intent. So now that I’m over that initial shock and put aside my expections of what a porter should taste like, I actually like this beer, but I also really love the combination of raspberries and chocolate. Here, it’s a it’s lightly sweet, dark chocolate combined with tart but very fruity raspberries, sour cherries, very light on the roast, only mildly bitter. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated with a cleaner palate than I’d expect from a fruity porter because the sweetness is kept to a minimum. I’m really enjoyed this very unique beer, a beer that might require you to step outside the customary boundaries of beer in order to enjoy it. Think "dessert" porter. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 28, 2006 Dark beer with mahagony hints around the edges. Foamy beige head. The initial nose has lots of molasses in it, with the chocolate/raspberry aromas soon to follow. The flavor is dominated by the chocolate and raspberry. The raspberry taste is not the worst, but it does have a hint of that chemical flavoring that plagues most raspberry beers. This is an odd mix of dusty cocoa, sour cherry, raspberry, and cigarette ash. Interesting, but not very good. Metalhead (572), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Feb 24, 2006 It looked good in the pint glass. Two finger head, very dark chocolate color. Thats where the good part ends. Aroma and taste wise this is pretty much like a beer version of a cheap $3 a box of candy cordials. Finish is too dry and the cocoa just doesn’t sit right creating an off balanced beer. If ya gotta try it buy only one. You’ll be glad ya did. hotstuff (3181), Indiana, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Feb 23, 2006 This one just didn’t do it for me. Weird combination of cocoa and raspberry in a Porter. Just plain weird. Was hoping it would get better as time went on, but unfortunately it did not. Tan small fizzy head that mostly diminished, poor lacing, mostly opaque, carbonated, and a dark brown hue with some red peeking through. Malty, cocoa, sweet and raspberry nose. Weird. Flavor was sweet, sour, raspberry, cocoa, and tart. Tingly mouthfeel. Medium body. This one just did not come together at all for me. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Not great. The chocolate and rasberry are noticeable but very artificial. Mouthfeel was watery. I’ve only had 2 other Sprechers but this one disappoints me.
