Great looking in every way, and very inviting to look at. Interesting mix of aromas, as well...chocolate /raspberry/ cherry/ roasted malt. Flavors are all high quality in and of themselves, but I don’t think they come together very well. I wanted to like this one more than I did. LePoopie (151), Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 10, 2006 Has a nice deep dark color, with a slight brown head. Has a mild coffee aroma, but is barely noticable. Slightly bitter, has a fruity berry flavor, that I don’t think works well in a porter. Pretty good body and texture, with decent carbonation. Overall, it’s kind of weird to me, and I don’t think I’d try it again. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 29, 2006 Large swing top bottle - aged 1 yr. Pours rich and frothy - deep mahogany color. Aroma of chocolate and berries. Taste is slightly sharp up front then lots of medicinal berry flavor, rounded a bit by chocolate and some bitterness. Slight on body IMO, and the fruit flavor a bit much. Didn’t seem to improve any with age, as I had tried some at the brewery back last spring. TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2006 16oz bottle. Pours a deep dark opaque reddish-brown-black; medium densely packed tan head settles down to 1/4" and stays there for eternity. Aroma of chocolate, natural raspberry, roast grain, and a tinge of metal. Flavor is equal parts raspberry, coffee, chocolate, and toasted grain. Well-integrated flavors are fully developed yet subtle -- this is not an "in your face with all kinds of flavor" beer despite its potential to be so. Creamy, tingly, thinnish palate. Apparently bottled in late 2004, it has aged pretty well. A nice dessert beer. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2006 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with tan head. Aroma of chocolate raspberries. I like the taste of sour raspberries and coffee/chocolate, but this is way too thin. Watery mouthfeel ruins what could be a good porter. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 11, 2006 I guess that it was a 750ml swing top bottle. Cereal and bready nose. Dark brown with a slight ruby tint around the edges. Also sugar and caramel in the nose. Fruity, sour and burnt coffee. Tart raspberries and chocolate. Lively and layered. Nice lacing head. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 27, 2005 Black, opaque, with a small tan head.
Burnt sugar and molasses aroma, fairly sweet. Strong raspberry flavor--like a Dannon raspberry popsicle of yore--some roasted malt and chocolate notes, medium sweet. Odd, and a bit artificial--chemical--tasting. walleye (881), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
