I had one when it first came out and another seven months later after I was told, "It would become much better after a few months of aging". While it is true that the raspberry did tone down "slightly", it still overpowered any other flavours in my glass. Weak head and lacing, cheap raspberry extract flavouring, light body and barely perceptable maltiness, with a light cocoa finish. A little oxidized and thin on the palate as well. How much longer can you wait to age this "porter" that hasn’t been bottle conditioned? Not likely very much longer. A huge disappointment.

Deep brown w/ a foamy off white head. Nose is slightly oxidative w/ a twinge of raspberries, dark chocolate and cardboard. Flavor mostly follows suite but w/ the raspberry pushed so far up front in begins to cloy. Not much body here--this comes across slightly watery. The finish is quick and mostly painless but w/ a linger touch of something not unlike artificial sweetener.

Reading the commercial description, I would like to warn people not to be fooled; this beer is not a good candidate for aging. No sir.

deep cola brown, tan head, lots of cocoa, mild roast, raspberry. flavor is loaded with raspberry, mild roast. cocoa comes on fairly strong in the end. well-carbonated. really is a very interesting beer and another nice beer from sprecher

Bottle from Jcappriotti. Pours a nice dark brown color with a light tan head. Nose is mettalic, sour, light roast. Taste is very thin, mettally, sour, raisins, light roast and minimal malt.

bottle-16oz purchased at Riley’s in Madison-im going against the grain here. I found this beer to be pretty tasty. pours deep brown almost black with a small beige head. aroma mainly of chocolate covered raspberries. flavors are more raspberry than chocolate when cold, but started to round out as it warmed, showing the darker malts. If the raspberry flavors were not as strong and more balanced, this beer would have gotten a 4 point score from me. body is a little thin and fizzy as well, but it wasnt detracting less than a 3 score. I would definately drink this again. I enjoyed this!

Big 34.92 oz.bottle with a sealed swing top that pours a clear brown-dark ruby color with huge lasting creamy light brown head that leaves sticky sheets of lace in my glass. Aroma of chocolate and raspberries, tart fruity raspberry, chocolate, nuts and caramel flavors. Medium bodied with a soft and creamy mouthfeel, finishes with a lingering sweetness, maybe a bit too sweet. I did not seem to have any problem finishing the large bottle by myself.

My 200th Wisconsin beer. From a 16 oz. bottle. Poured a very dark brown that is nearly black. The thin head is light brown. The aroma reminds me of those cheap little strawberry flavored hard candies you would get at halloween. Then you get some light cocoa. The taste is tart with that raspberry extract. There is also a little bit of chocolate, but the tartness blows it away. Strange in the taste and aroma. I can hardly tell this is porter as it tastes more like a fruit beer. I wonder if the tart fruit taste mellows after some aging.

Black with a reddish tint and a big,creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt and tart berries. Flavor is dominated first by the tart raspberries then folds in some chocolate and coffee. Dry finish that’s basically reminiscent of a chocolate covered raspberry. Medium bodied and very enjoyable.
