Commercial Description:
Celebrating 20 years of remarkably good taste! Characterized by a medium-body & dry well-balanced finish, this deep brown porter brewed with Dutch cocoa and pure raspberry extract evokes chocolate, caramel and fresh tart raspberries. Keeping our specialty product cool, still & dark pays rewards in flavor changes over the next year or more.

Poured dark with raspberry and cocoa aroma. WAY to sweet and artificial sweet at that. Raspberry and chocolate came thru as well. yuk

Pours deep brown with a thin tan head. Big aroma of raspberry pie right out of the oven. The chocolate comes through behind the big fruitiness. Just lots and lots of raspberry fruit in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight fruit tartness followed by raspberry preserves. Just like the aroma the chocolate and roasted malts are just strong enough to slice through the fruit. I like the taste but it seems pretty far from a Porter in style.

Thanks to Dave for sharing this with us. 2005 bottling. As soon as the bottle was opened, raspberry aroma overwhelmed the room. Pours a dark brown bod, thin ruddy head. Aromas of raspberries, cocoa, malt. Flavor is dominated by the raspberry. It’s off putting, especially coming from a porter. None of the flavor notes one comes to expect from a porter. Lightly astringent, thin mouthfeel. Finish is used grounds, raspberries. Couldn’t quite stomach this one for whatever reason.

This was a difficult one to drink, and not porter a cared for too much, but I’m glad I tried it, as it is truly unique. The aroma was of tart berries, baking cocoa and black coffee. The scent kinda reminded me of old pennies in a change jar, as it was metallic and musky. The flavour was more cocoa up front, and extremely tart raspberries in the finish and back of the tongue. The addition of some hops in attempt to balance the flavour fails miserably as the tartness is overpowering. The body was a little thin to, with an oily texture. Not great, but definitely worth a try.

Clear deep dark porter with reddish hues and a thick moka head. Aroma of raspberry jam, and chocolate spread, and fresh black roasted coffee. In mouth, a lightly sour porter, due to the fruits, with light bitter chocolate, an interesting marriage. Tasted Jan 2007, with probstk.

This beer pours a dark color with some good head retention. It has a very fruity smell with mild hops. As you drink it the flavor is very tart and mildly bitter. for the most part this is a great porter since i really like bitter and tart beers. As you continue to drink it you start to get some nice earthy and woody yet still tart and sour flavors

Bottle sampled at Dark Lord Day 2007. Aroma has notes of bourbon and caramel, butterscotch and molasses. Some off notes. Dark amber color with a light brown head. Sour flavor; not too good. Tastes sort of like it smells.

poured from a huge bottle at DLD. not that good. it’s not even pitch black like a porter is supposed to be. in fact, it’s not a porter at all. it’s dark brown, but still largely translucent. pretty carbonated too. flavor is all sourness, and it’s not even really a raspberry flavor. i have no idea what this beer is, but it’s not a porter and it’s hardly raspberries. it’s just a weird artificial sour carbonated beverage. why do raspberry beers so consistently let me down?
